Early this morning, the United States and England's groupmates faced off in South Africa.  While fans of these two definitely wanted a tie to stay even, a win for either side was likely.

Unfortunately, the better team won today.

Slovenia's victory over Algeria spells trouble for both the U.S. and England.  Granted, Slovenia would have to steal points over one of these two, or hope Algeria does the same, to advance.

But this could happen.  Slovenia has a great defense.  Sure, we could go all day exclaiming about the bad Algerian goalkeeping leading to the win.  But I assure you that Slovenia is the better team at this point.

Let's play out this possible scenario.

Slovenia ties the U.S. and loses 1-0 to England.  They would have four points.  This means the U.S. would have a ton of pressure against Algeria.  A tie would leave them at home.

Same story for England.  They just have the advantage of playing Algeria first, which with the goal scoring abilities of Gerrard and Rooney shouldn't be difficult to win.

Not saying the U.S. will be going home.  But they have an extreme amount of pressure to score goals against the stiff Slovenian defense.  If not, they could be in a world of trouble.
