Controversy in the WWE: Top Controversial Moments
Whether or not the Daniel Bryan firing is the end of Bryan Danielson's career with the WWE or not, the reason for his firing is definitely one of the more controversial moments in the "PG" era of the WWE.
Here are some of the controversial moments that led to negative reactions by fans and the public.
The Hanging of the Big Boss Man
After the Undertaker defeated the Big Boss Man, of the Corporation, in a Hell in a Cell match, the Brood, including Christian, Edge, and Gangrel, proceeded to drop down from the ceiling on top of the cage.
They then cut through the cage and dropped a noose down through the opening. The Undertaker then put the noose around the Boss Man, and Paul Bearer proceeded to raise the cage. Boss Man struggled to get loose, but failed to do so, and after 15 seconds of hanging, the lights cut out and vintage lightning flashes followed.
Stone Cold Crucified on Taker's Cross
The Undertaker had feuded with the Corporation for awhile, and now demanded a sacrifice. His first choice was Stephanie McMahon, and after getting her onto the cross, Stone Cold came out and saved her.
Weeks later, Stone Cold became the sacrifice.
Even though he wasn't actually crucified and he wasn't on a traditional cross, the whole moment was too much symbolism for some people.
The Kat Shows All
At Armaggedon in 1999, Miss Kitty, also known as the Kat, participated in an evening gown pool match against Ivory and Jacqueline.
After winning the match, the Kat celebrated by removing her clothes.
Promptly after revealing herself, officials quickly covered her up.
Rated R Edge and Lita Celebrate
What can be more controversial than two wrestlers having sex on cable television in prime-time.
Edge was just crowned the WWE Champion the night before at New Year's Revolution and decided that it was a good time to celebrate on Raw with some good old fashioned loving.
Edge and Lita went through with the event and got down to lingerie and boxers. Rustling under the sheets, a slight slip of Lita's exposed breast was caught by a cameraman (who was probably fired soon after).
John Cena and Ric Flair came and broke up the mess and the moment ended as one of the stupidest fillers ever, yet controversial.
Owen Hart's Death
Owen Hart was in the middle of a split personality storyline where he played a superhero by the name of the "Blue Blazer."
During the PPV, "Over the Edge" in 1999, Hart was being lowered to the ring when the cord snapped and he fell to his death.
The Hart family promptly sued over wrongful death, claiming that Owen was safely harnessed before being lowered, and proper protocol wasn't taken when lowering him.
Whenever Hebner is around, something goes wrong. But this wrong happened on purpose thanks to Vincent Kennedy McMahon.
Bret Hart had failed to come to terms on a contract extension and Vince didn't like how this was turning out, so he decided to screw Hart over.
Most people already know about this, and if you don't, you live under a rock. But HBK won the title against Bret Hart using his own finisher, The "Sharpshooter," even though Hart never tapped.
This became known as the "Montreal Screwjob" and will be a topic for the life of the World Wrestling Federation.
Daniel Bryan And The NXT Invasion
The most recent controversy involved the recent invasion of the NXT 8 during Raw, attacking John Cena and every WWE employee in sight.
The most controversial aspect occurred 5 days after the airing of the invasion. Daniel Bryan (Bryan Danielson) was fired, out of nowhere, because of the incident. Many still believe this is apart of the storyline.
Whether or not it is a storyline, Bryan was fired over his "too violent actions for PG television" when he used a tie to choke Justin Roberts, the Raw ring announcer.
Many believe that the firing is without grounds, because WWE was behind his actions all along. Other bloggers have stated that Bryan was well respected in the locker room and wouldn't take things under his own control, because he always followed directions.
Let's hope this is a storyline, but like it or not, Bryan Danielson is not a current superstar for the WWE.
