Chad Ochocinco is missing from volunteer training camp. He is expected to arrive in Cincinnati this weekend. That is when the Bengals begin their mandatory, full-squad mini camp.
Carson Palmer has been quoted ripping Ochocinco for not being there. Former Bengals QB, Boomer Esiason has also weighed in.
Esiason thinks the Bengals should cut ties with Ochocinco.
Ochocinco is looking at life after football. Prior to the 2008 season, he wanted more dough from the Bengals. They played hardball and he got nothing extra.
He is now finding other ways to increase his pay without going through a contract dispute.
Here is why we shouldn't care about this.
Many fans and the media are getting all worked up about Ochocinco not attending "voluntary" camps.
If it is so important, the NFL should make them mandatory. The Bengals are not the only team that has players not show up for the voluntary camps. Read the many articles about players skipping voluntary workouts.
Chad did this last year and it seemed to work out fine. Carson Palmer and Ochocinco have been playing together a long time.
This has been blown out of proportion during the off season because of the lack of things to talk about. The media has nothing else to talk about so they are drilling Palmer with questions about Ochocinco.
Ochocinco is the least of coach Marvin Lewis's worries.
Of course, Palmer is saying that he would rather have Ochocinco in camp. He has to say those things as the team leader.
No worries, Bengal fans. This is going to be a good year
Bengal fans have known for years what to expect from Ochocinco.
In 2010, he had a great year considering Palmer had trouble with his accuracy.
Check the stats.
In 2008, he didn't do well but he was injured and disgruntled.
Chad Ochocinco works harder than most players during the season and off season. Ample media coverage was devoted to Ochocinco working out on the side while the dancing show was going on. He isn't sitting around like a slug.
There is no cause for concern.
Ochocinco's absence is a good thing for the other receivers on the squad. The new receivers are getting snaps that normally would have gone to Ochocinco.
Ochocinco and Palmer have over a thousand regular season snaps together. If they don't have chemistry by now they never will.
Let Ochocinco do stupid reality shows and let Palmer work more with Antonio Bryant, Jermaine Gresham, and Jerome Simpson.
