What Schobel really wants

Buffalo Bills defensive lineman Aaron Schobel hinted at the end of last season that he wanted to retire and reaffirmed that today with comments to the Buffalo News.

However, if you read between the lines you will be able to see a different story.

“At this point I don’t think I’m going to play,” Schobel told The Buffalo News on Thursday. “I’m not ready to say I’m retiring but it’s in the Bills’ hands.”

In other words he saying that he would like to be traded without formally telling them out of respect to the organization.

Schobel has played a defensive end in a 4-3 defense his entire career and him moving to outside linebacker on a team that is rebuilding is disenchanting to him.

However, if general manager Buddy Nix gave Schobel his outright release or traded him to a team like the Houston Texans he probably jump on it in a heart beat.

In the end, it is obvious Schobel doesn’t want to play anymore for a loser franchise and with him being in the twilight of his career it is simply time for both to part ways.
