As expected, the Dallas Cowboys are working feverishly with these rookie signings.

Tashard Choice, a running back from Georgia State, has come to an agreement with the Cowboys on a four-year deal. The financial terms are undisclosed.

He will be used on the special teams, but he could also fill in for Marion Barber for about five to 10 carries a game.

Here is the Dallas Morning News Breakdown of Tashard Choice:

Analysis: In 2005, the Cowboys hit on a fourth-round running back in Marion Barber and hope to do the same with Choice. He started his career at Oklahoma, behind Adrian Peterson, and transferred to Georgia Tech. He became the first runner since Thomas Jones (Virginia, 1998-99) to lead the ACC in rushing in back-to-back years. He's more of a power runner than a speed threat, but he showed some niftiness in the off-season.

Roster spot: He enters camp as the No. 3 back. In some ways, he might be better suited to be a carry-the-load type than first-rounder Felix Jones. Getting work behind Barber and Jones will be tough, but the coaches like his potential. He's also a natural leader, which is something to keep an eye on down the road. Granted it was without pads, but he showed good vision and burst in the OTAs and mini-camp.

In other news, Martellus Bennett, the Cowboys second-round pick is close to an agreement.

This will leave just the first-rounders, Felix Jones and Mike Jenkins, to be signed. They are both represented by the same agent, so these could get done in a hurry as well.

Unfortunately, the agent also represents Chicago Bears' Devin Hester, who is holding out for a better contract from the Bears. That might take some time away from the Cowboy rookie signings.

  1. WHo knows maybe he might even take Jones spot

  2. There could be several ways something like having him and Barber in the backfield and Jones split out as a receiver. Never know!
