Isaac Bruce: Hall of Fame Career?

San Francisco 49er WR Isaac Bruce was traded to the St. Louis Rams this week so that he could retire a Ram, the franchise where he spent 14 of his 16 NFL seasons. 

Bruce’s career saw him finish fifth in receptions (1,024), second in career receiving yards (15,208) and ninth in career touchdowns (91). 

He won a Super Bowl with the St. Louis Rams in 1999 and appeared in another one in 2001.

 

Bruce is going to be an interesting candidate for the Hall of Fame in five years. He has a very convincing résumé; featuring the second most career receiving yards in NFL history. When a receiver ranks in the top 10 in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns, it is hard to argue with the career totals.

 

The issue is that he stayed around for a significant period past his prime. From 2002 to 2009, he had only two 1,000-yard seasons and failed to record more than eight touchdown receptions in any of those seasons...
