Anelka To Remain Blue
Nicolas Anelka has finalised a new contract at Chelsea.

The 31-year-old striker has agreed a two-year extension to his current deal which has just one year left to run.

With Anelka out at in South Africa, his representative has concluded terms on a £90,000-a-week package which will see him remain a vital part of coach Carlo Ancelotti's plans for the club's title defence next season.

The news comes after it emerged last night that the champions will slash £18million off the Stamford Bridge wage bill by releasing just FOUR players - Joe Cole, Michael Ballack, Juliano Beletti and Deco.

Cole's £90,000-a-week salary totalled £4.6million while Ballack's £130,000-a-week came to around nearly £7million.

Deco, now set to return to his native Brazil with Fluminese, pulled in £5million a year with his £96,000-a-week earnings while Beletti was on £65,000-a-week, around £2.5million.

While all are set to depart, however, Anelka is now likely to end his career at the club that he joined from Bolton for £10million two and a half years ago.

The striker, whose France side kick off their World Cup against Uruguay on Friday, smashed 15 goals this season to help Chelsea to the Premier League and FA Cup Double.

Talks over a new deal had been put on hold end of the season. But his agent Doug Pinisi insisted last month that the former Arsenal and Real Madrid marksman wanted to stay at the club and Ancelotti has wasted no time in signing him on.

Pinisi said: "Nicolas is happy at Chelsea and of course he wants to stay at Chelsea."
