Where'd They Go? Top Rated HS Safeties of 2006
Here we will review the college careers of the Top 10 Safeties of the High School class of 2006.
Given the high rating of talent these guys had coming into their freshman seasons, we're going to see how they developed as players.
Some are in the NFL, some are still in college and some only have the memories of their HS Senior Year to look back on.

10. Quintin Bank—Georgia
As a recruit: 6'4'', 190 lbs., 40 yd: 4.52
Now: 6'4'', 213 lbs.
Houston County HS, GA
Given a score of 82 by ESPNU and made the ESPNU150.
Redshirted his Freshman Year.
RS Fr—Appeared in 6 games and made 12 tackles.
RS So—Injured in the preseason and appeared in one game.
RS Jr—Appeared in 4 games and made 3 tackles.
2010— Will play back up to Jr. Nick Williams at Strong Safety.
9. Darryl Gamble—Georgia
As a recruit: 6'2'', 217 lbs., 40: 4.6
Now: 6'2'', 250 lbs.
Bainbridge HS, GA
Scored 82 by ESPN and made the ESPN150.
RS Fr.—Listed as weak-side linebacker. He appeared in 13 games with 13 tackles and one forced fumble.
RS So.—Appeared in 12 games and started six with 60 tackles, 15 QB hurries, two pick-sixes, and one sack. He suffered a knee injury at the end of the season.
RS Jr.—Appeared in 13 games and started 11 with 42 tackles, one forced fumble, and one Sack.
2010—Will play back-up to Cornelius Washington (who moved to OLB from DE).
8. Darian Hagan—California
As a recruit: 6'1'', 175 lbs., 40: 4.5
Now: 6'1'', 188 lbs.
Crenshaw Senior High School, CA
Given a score of 82 by ESPN and made the ESPN150.
RS Fr.—Played five games on Special Teams. Back-up cornerback.
RS So.—Started at CB with 56 tackles, one forced fumble, and three picks.
RS Jr.—Played in 10 games and started four, recording 29 tackles.
2010—Will probably start at CB.
7. Brandon Heath—Louisville
As a recruit: 6'1'', 175 lbs., 40: 4.55
Now: 6'1'', 215 lbs
Palm Beach Lakes HS, FL
Given an 83 by ESPN. Also listed on the ESPNU150.
RS Fr.—Appeared in 10 games and recorded 10 tackles at safety and on special teams.
RS So.—Played in nine games and made 20 tackles before getting injured.
RS Jr.—Moved to Linebacker and made 48 tackles with one pick-six.
2010—Will start at LB.
6. Jamar Hornsby—Florida
As a recruit: 6'4'', 195 lbs., 40: 4.5
2008: 6'4'', 210 lbs.
Sandalwood HS, FL
Scored at 83 by ESPN and made the ESPNU150.
RS Fr.—Back-up at safety. He recorded five tackles and was put on probation for a credit card misdemeanor that occurred at UF.
RS So.—Transferred to East Mississippi. There he recorded 111 tackles and two interceptions.
He then signed with Ole Miss. Unfortunately, that spring he was charged with assaulting a man at McDonald's Drive-Thru with brass knuckles.
5. Reshad Jones—Georgia
As a recruit: 6'2'', 177 lbs., 40: 4.58
Now: 6'2'', 214 lbs.
Booker T. Washington HS, GA
Scored at 88 by ESPN also making the ESPNU150.
RS Fr.—Appeared in 13 games and started two, recording 57 tackles and two INTs.
RS So.—Started at safety and had 76 tackles and five INTs.
RS Jr.—Started at safety with 61 tackles, four INTs, and one forced fumble.
2010—Drafted in the 5th round by the Miami Dolphins.
4. Allen Walker—Ole Miss
As a recruit: 6'2'', 200 lbs., 40: 4.55
Now: 6'2'', 230 lbs.
Olive Branch HS, MS
Scored 88 by ESPN. Also making the ESPNU150.
RS Fr.—Moved from safety to strong-side linebacker and appeared in every game, making 13 tackles.
RS So.—Appeared in all games and started nine with 41 tackles (two TFL's), two sacks, one INT, and two pass break-ups.
RS Jr.—Played all games and started 10, making 51 tackles (five TFL's), and five pass break-ups.
2010—Will Start at strong-side linebacker.
3. Antwine Perez —USC
As a recruit: 6'2'', 200 lbs., 40: 4.5
Now: 6'2'', 210 lbs.
Woodrow Wilson HS, NJ
Scored 91 by ESPN. ESPNU150.
Fr.—Played in seven games as backup free safety, recording three tackles.
So.—Sat out the season after transferring to Maryland.
RS So.—Played in all games and started two, with 24 tackles, and one sack.
RS Jr.—Recorded 38 tackles and one forced fumble.
2010—Should start at safety.
2. Taylor Mays—USC
As a recruit: 6'4'', 225 lbs., 40: 4.5
Now: 6'4'', 230 lbs., 40: 4.35
O'Dea HS, WA
Scored 92 by ESPN. ESPNU150.
Fr.—Started at free safety after Josh Pinkard went down in the first game. He had 62 tackles and three interceptions.
So.—Started at free safety with 65 tackles, one forced fumble, one interception, and was named a 1st Team All-American.
Jr.—Starting FS. Mays had 53 tackles and was a 1st Team All-American. Opted to stay for Senior Season.
Sr.—Starting FS. Recorded 88 tackles, with one pick, and was again named a 1st Team All-American.
2010—Selected in the 2nd Round by the San Francisco 49ers.
1. Myron Rolle —Florida State
As a recruit: 6'3'', 210 lbs., 40: 4.5
Now: 6'3'', 215 lbs., 40: 4.54
The Hun School of Princeton, NJ
Scored 94 by ESPN. ESPNU150's #1 Prospect of 2006.
Fr.—Started after Anthony Houllis suffered a knee injury in the 3rd game. He had 77 tackles, one pick, and was a 1st Team All-Freshman.
So.—Started full-time at safety with 68 tackles and one forced fumble.
Jr.—Started the season at safety, recorded 62 tackles, and was honored as a Rhodes Scholar.
Sr.—Spent year earning Master's in Medical Anthropology at Oxford.
2010—Selected in the 6th Round by the Tennessee Titans.
50. Zac Etheridge —Auburn
As a recruit: 6'0'', 174 lbs., 40: 4.5
Now: 6'0'', 210 lbs.
Charles Henderson HS, AL
Scored 76 by ESPN.
Fr.—Redshirted. Appeared in three games.
RS Fr.—Started 12 of 13 games at strong safety with 66 tackles and two forced fumbles.
RS So.—Started at SS and recorded 75 tackles with one pick.
RS Jr.—Started SS for the first nine games before suffering season ending torn ligaments in his neck and a cracked fifth vertebra against Ole Miss. He had 52 tackles and two forced fumbles.
