Brain Duds By The Twins Allow Yankees to Win

This year seems to be Mike Mussina's year. Today he pitched a gem in the Bronx going eight innings not allowing a run or a walk and striking out seven. Mussina picked up his 13th win of the season. He is now 13-6 on the year.

Mussina would not have won if he didn't get some key run support in the fifth. in the fifth Jose Molina grounded into what looked like a double play but second baseman Alexi Casilla thought that he had made the third out. Little did he know there were actually only two outs when he stepped on second. This brain fart allowed Robinson Cano to go to third and on the next pitch Justin Christian hit a two-run double to score Cano and Molina who was on first.

The Yankees struck again in the sixth when Alex Rodriguez doubled to score Derek Jeter and Boby Abreu. A-Rod moved to third following an errant throw which setup a Richie Sexson sac-fly to score A-Rod and to put the Yankees up 5-0.

Mussina was pulled in the eighth and was relieved by LaTroy Hawkins. Hawkins went two and a third innings and let up a run. Mariano Rivera came in to close the door and actually picked up a save, his 25th.

Yankees are off tomorrow and are scheduled for a three game series in Boston starting Friday at 7:05 p.m.
