And here we go. The greatest crop of free agents in the history of professional sports are ready to decide the fate of the NBA. Here's look at every players potential suitors and where they'll land.
David Lee-C/PF
Age:27
Height: 6"10
Weight: 250 lbs.
College: Florida
There is little doubt about David Lee anymore, now going into his 6th season in the league, Lees numbers have improved steadily each year. Averaging 20 and 11 last year, Lee is also one of the true iron men of the game missing one game in each of the last three seasons. Lee has put himself up there with the best post players in the game, not only is he a very good defensive player he is also one of the top workers in the game. The Knicks mouths will be open to all the big time stars, but they shouldn't forget what they already have, letting Lee walk could set the franchise back another decade.
Contenders: Bulls, Mavs, Heat, Knicks, Nets
Prediction: Nets, the Knicks get awestruck in attempting to sign King James or D-Wade and lose out on the guy who has made them watchable for the last 5 years. Lee goes to Newark, where he pairs with rising star Brook Lopez to make one of the best low post pairs in recent memory.
Amar'e Stoudemire-C
Age:27
Height: 6"10
Weight: 250 lbs.
College: Cypress Creek High School (Florida)
Amar'e burst onto the scene in 2003 winning the rookie of the year and has performed at a premier level being named to the All Star team five times. The only thing separating Amar'e from Dwight Howard is that Howard is the best defensive player in the league and Ama're is an average to good defender. This past season was the Suns deepest playoff run and their best chance to win the West and they couldn't do it, I think its time for Amar'e to leave the desert for greener pastures.
Contenders: Knicks, Bulls, Nets, Heat, Suns
Prediction: Bulls, I have never been a fan of the LeBron to Chicago speculation. The Bulls get a very valuable piece to partner with Derrick Rose and make them an immediate top 5 team in the East.
Dirk Nowitzki-PF
Age: 31
Height: 7"0
Weight: 250 lbs
College: Germany
Anyone who thought the greatest foreign born player lost a step, was proven wrong this year. Averaging 25 PPG with 7.7 RPG, Dirk led the Mavs to the playoffs once again and again came up short. Dirk has another four or five good seasons left in him. Lackluster on defense, his offense ability is second to none at his position.
Contenders: Mavs, Knicks
Prediction: Mavs, at the end of the day Mark Cuban will keep his franchise's best player. The Knicks could be option with D'Antoni's "No Defense,All Offense" system but ultimately the Mavs keep Dirk.
Joe Johnson-SG
Age: 28
Height: 6"7
Weight: 240 lbs.
College: Arkansas
Joe Johnson's stock has fallen considerably, in mid season he looked to be one of the hottest commodity's on the free agent market. But after proving he couldn't truly create his own shot or step up when the Hawks needed him the most, he remains where he was, a very good player but not an elite player. But their are several teams that will still beg for his services.
Contenders: Hawks, Knicks, Clippers, Nets,
Prediction: Knicks, they fail to land LeBron and settle for JJ.
Chris Bosh-PF/C
Age:26
Height: 6"10
Weight: 230 lbs.
College: Georgia Tech
Chris Bosh fits alot of teams needs, he is an extremely unlimited basketball player. I would bet a good amount on the possibility of Chris Bosh winning an NBA Championship before his career is over. Bosh will move to a major market and finally be the top 5 player we all thought he was this whole time in exile in Toronto.
Contenders: Knicks, Raptors, Bulls, Nets, Mavs, Heat
Prediction: Heat, Bosh heads to South Beach, the polar opposite of Toronto, and will find the polar opposite of what he found in Canada...success. Will D-Wade be there with him?
Rudy Gay- SF
Age:23
Height: 6"8
Weight: 230 lbs.
College: UConn
Gay will probably not return to Memphis next year, although they are one of the top young and up and coming teams, they cannot afford a rising star like Gay, especially with OJ Mayo, Mike Conley and Marc Gasol all looking for extensions soon.
Contenders: Heat, Grizz, Knicks, Mavs, Clippers, Nets, Cavs
Prediction: Nets, if your keeping track of my predictions, this would leave the Nets with a nucleus of Devin Harris, Rudy Gay, David Lee and Brook Lopez. And that is not including the #3 pick in the draft. From a GM strand point, if i had to choose between King James or Gay and Lee, ill take two all stars for one superstar.
Dwyane Wade-SG
Age: 28
Height: 6"4
Weight: 220 lbs.
College: Marquette
D-Wade, who is widely considered the number 2 on the market, will have just as many options as the King. The only thing Wade has on LeBron is he is a proven winner, something that has eluded LeBron in his young career. Will Wade stay in Miami or head for the bright lights of New York or Chicago.
Contenders: Heat, Knicks, Nets, Bulls
Prediction: Heat, Wade stays in South Beach, pairs with Bosh and they win the Eastern Conference in 2010-2011.
LeBron James-SF
Age: 25
Height: 6"8
Weight: 250 lbs
College: St. Vincent St. Marys High School (OH)
The moment we've all been waiting for, the event 3 years in the making. Where does the worlds biggest freak athlete of all time, where will the King lay his crown, where will the biggest child prodigy call home? Will he stay close to his home of Akron, Ohio?, will he head to the Knicks and attempt to revitalize the mecca of basketball?, will he join up with his buddy Jay-Z and be the poster boy for a new franchise in Brooklyn?, or will he try to go to Chitown and follow in the steps of his boyhood idol Michael Jordan?
Contenders: Cavs, Knicks, Heat, Bulls, Nets, Clippers
Prediction: Clippers, I know shocking right? This probably won't happen, but if the King truly weighs his options, he'll find that giving the Lake Show a run for their money is his best option. Quietly the Clippers have built a nice team, LeBron would be the final piece of it all.
Starting Lineup:
PG-Baron Davis (past his prime, but still a very good all around player and good leader)
SG-Eric Gordon (one of the best young players in the league, there is not much he doesn't do very well)
SF-LeBron James (makes the Clippers the best team in the NBA)
PF-Blake Griffin (the injury is still a concern, but lets be honest at worst he's Kenyon Martin, who was a very good player and is still a nice player, at best he is Blake Griffin, the next great PF)
C-Chris Kaman (All Star center, has finally found his game and is a top center in the league)
Now this isn't the sexy pick that the Knicks or Bulls are, but if LeBron really wants to be a superstar, go to L.A., turn the lowly Clips around, battle Kobe 3-4 times a year and shock the world. It makes alot more sense, the more you think about it....so think about it. LeBron Clippers Savior.
