I have conducted a series on the projected depth charts for the upcoming season on the four teams in the AFC South division.

Part Seven now uncovers the Jacksonville Jaguars’ feasible offensive outlook to begin the season.

While the Jaguars’ defense has come across many fortifications in the offseason, the offense has seen minimal upgrades.

However, the following list will illustrate why that is a very minor concern and why Jacksonville could have a bright future on the horizon.

QB: David Garrard

Last season David Garrard threw for over 3,500 yards with 15 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

Garrard also achieved a 60 percent completion percentage and made his way to the Pro Bowl.

Despite criticism received from fans, coaches, and even the team owner, Garrard claims he’s had the best offseason of his entire NFL career.

Backup: Luke McCown

RB: Maurice Jones-Drew (FB: Greg Jones)

Coming off a groundbreaking season with over 1,300 yards and 15 touchdowns produced, the 5’6.5”, 208-pound speedster is ready to completely annihilate the opposition in his fifth season with new added help.

Backups: Rashad Jennings, Deji Karim

LT: Eugene Monroe

Eugene Monroe was selected with the eighth pick overall in the 2008 NFL Draft. He provided immediate impact and started in 13 games.

Unfortunately, by midseason, Monroe’s play was inconsistent by most accounts, having missed Week Four with an illness and having to be benched the following week.

But despite some struggles, he finished the season with just three penalties and seven sacks allowed.

Backup: Daniel Baldridge

LG: Uche Nwaneri/Justin Smiley

In his second season in the league, Uche Nwaneri was given a chance to take the starting job after Vince Manuwai suffered an injury.

Nwaneri seized the opportunity, starting all but one game in ’08.

Nwaneri then beat out Maurice Williams to start opposite the returning Manuwai at left guard last season.

On a side note, Nwaneri actually gained notoriety in the offseason when he posted doubts about Tim Tebow’s potential NFL success on his team’s website message board.

Nwaneri will have his hands full competing once again for the starting position, but this time against newly acquired Justin Smiley.

C: Brad Meester

He was taken in the second round of the 2000 NFL Draft.

Since then Brad Meester has been recognized as only the third Jaguar to start all 16 games in his rookie year and the sole player in franchise history to start in all of his first 92 regular season games.

Backup: Cecil Newton

RG: Vince Manuwai

Just like Olin Kreutz, Vince Manuwai is also a former Hawaiian standout and third-round pick.

Manuwai doesn’t sit on a pedestal quite like Kreutz, but he’s a very reliable interior lineman who does his best to excel in getting the job done week in and week out.

Backup: Paul McQuistan

RT: Eben Britton

After Jacksonville drafted Eugene Monroe in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft, Eben Britton followed, continuing a massing overhaul effort on the offensive line.

Reportedly angry about not being taken in the first round, Britton stated, “I’m going to work my ass off for the Jacksonville Jaguars, and people are going to regret [not taking me].”

Britton continued to say, “I’ve got my own agenda, and that’s first and foremost to take the Jacksonville Jaguars to the Super Bowl. I’m gonna be the greatest offensive tackle to ever play this game.”

Though that’s really setting the bar high and perhaps setting yourself up to fail, Britton had a very solid rookie year, receiving 15 starts, and is ready to improve.

Backup: Jordan Black

TE: Marcedes Lewis

Marcedes Lewis, a former first round pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, hasn’t panned out to meet expectations through the air, serving just 123 receptions for 1,524 yards and seven touchdowns in his four NFL seasons.

However, despite not being a lethal force in the passing attack, Lewis is widely known as one of the league’s best pure blocking tight ends in the NFL today.

I suspect around 50 catches with over 500 yards and four touchdowns this season.

Backup: Ernest Wilford

WR1: Mike Sims-Walker

Albeit he was a late bloomer, Mike Sims-Walker turned luminary last season, accumulating 63 receptions for 869 yards with seven touchdowns.

Sims-Walker conducted the way for his teammates, and I suspect a 75-reception season with 1,100-plus yards is on the horizon for him in 2010.

Backup: Kassim Osgood

WR2: Mike Thomas, VOTP

Second-year pros Jarett Dillard and especially Mike Thomas are built for the slot.

However, offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter wants the youthful receivers to emerge.

Moreover, Mike Thomas, a fourth round pick via the 2008 NFL Draft, has caught nearly double the sum of receptions in just his rookie season as Troy Williamson in his last three years combined.

The 5’8,” 195-pound versatile threat had four starts last year and should exceed his expectations this season.

Backups: Jarett Dillard, Troy Williamson

Verse of this Piece

“When you are arrested, don’t worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given the things to say. It will not really be you speaking but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.”—Matthew 10:19-20

My Dad’s Son has written a verse of his own choosing (unless one was requested) with every new article he has presented since he began with his 50th piece.

You are under absolutely no obligation to read my verses. This is just something small to glorify his Lord and Savior.

I hope this will inspire someone to step out, to speak without fear, and perhaps one day start somewhat of a trend. If you’d like to request a verse, send me a message via B/R.
