The following is a brief update on the injury status of both the viper, Randy Orton, and the phenom, the Undertaker.
The Undertaker suffered a broken orbital bone in his match with Rey Mysterio during last week’s SmackDown.
Apparently, the injury is more serious than some suspected. Because of the injury the Undertaker suffered he will not be able to take part in the Fatal 4Way match for the World Heavyweight Championship at the upcoming PPV of the same name.
This week’s SmackDown had every male superstar compete in a battle royale for Undertaker’s spot in the match. Rey Mysterio ended up being the victor of the matchup, no shock there.
Meanwhile, Randy Orton is also nursing an injury.
Orton suffered a separated shoulder during his match with the Rated-R Superstar, Edge, at WWE Over The Limit PPV.
Last Monday Night Raw, they had a storyline where Edge took out Randy. Randy was not able to compete in his match that night and Evan Bourne took his place, leading his team to victory.
The seriousness of Randy’s injury is still unknown.
WWE Champion John Cena and good old Jim Ross both spoke out on Randy.
John Cena said (via Twitter):
“I do not know Randy Orton’s condition so I really don’t want to speak on his behalf although I do hope he is well,” Cena said. “I have said it time and time again about him, he is one of the best I’ve ever seen.”
Jim Ross had this to say (posted on his blog):
“Randy Orton’s apparent shoulder injury, I can’t be sure if it is a shoulder or the seriousness of the injury, really had a profound affect on the PPV. The Orton-Edge match ended as best it could by most standards. Orton, in obvious and excruciating pain, gutted it out to his credit. After this match the show seemed to valley somewhat until the final bout."
“If, big if, it is Randy’s shoulder, it won’t be the first time that RKO has suffered shoulder issues. Officials will know more Monday regarding Randy’s status. Hopefully this will be a deal where Orton’s off for only a brief period of time and won’t require any surgery to tighten up the shoulder. OU, now Minnesota Viking running back, Adrian Peterson had the same issues his freshman year at Oklahoma but surgery took care of his issues and he did not miss that much time…"
“I sure hope that Randy Orton is going to be O.K. as losing him especially hurts. Randy hit me with a text late Sunday night and he’s not even sure what the verdict will be until tomorrow. Raw is going to be an especially compelling, two hours of live TV Monday night.”
If Randy Orton is not able to return for Fatal 4way, I would love to see the WWE put Evan Bourne in that matchup.
The kid is definitely deserving of the spotlight. Sheamus is still however the favourite to win that matchup at the PPV.
