As with any team, a new season normally means wholesale changes to the squad, however for Chelsea there is a bigger reason for change, and his name is Luiz Felipe Scolari.
Chelsea has been lucky enough to have the millions of Roman Abramovich and in some cases this money has been well spent however how many players can you name that have frankly been a complete waste of money?
Lets see now Khalid Boularouz, Steve Sidwell, Andriy Shevchenko, also what about the players that have been brought in but not lived up to their hefty wage packets and price tags? Salomon Kalou, Andriy Shevchenko (again), Flourent Malouda. Nicholas Anelka and Shaun Wright-Phillips.
Now let's be fair here, some of these players have not been given a fair chance, after all why buy Nicholas Anelka and never actually play him in his best position so there may be a reprieve for some of the named however their have been players who have simply not performed. Yes Flourent Malouda, Andriy Shevchenko, Salomon Kalou we are talking about you.
So who do we anticipate being shown the door, or who would we like to be shown the door? Well sorry guys but make way for the new era.
So Jose Bosingwa, Branislav Ivanovic, Deco??? Good signings, well only time will tell but good news is that key players like Peter Cech, Michael Essien have all signed new long term deals, so Frank Lampard get off your pedestal and sign a new deal, after all we would all like to be earning your kind of money but if you truly love the club that has become your own then sign the deal.
Can we look forward to more signings? I hope so. But let's just hope they are the right ones.

Kalou has the potential to be a very good player and I think it's wrong to bracket him with Malouda. He has scored a few goals and actually tries to take people on, unlike Malouda. Plus, he's still young and has time to improve. He needs to work on his finishing and positioning (sometimes I think he was born offside) but the potential is definitely there.

I do agree and maybe i was a bit harsh and to be fair I do actually believe he played very well towards the end of the season but he does need to sharpen parts of his game if he is going to fulfill his potential, and who better that scolari to do that

I'm in agreement with Alan. Kalou can't possibly be named in that list of people who have under performed. He plays very well as a 2nd striker or out wide in that 3 man pronged attack Chelsea usually play.
It's got to be said, Chelsea have bought some shocking players over the years, even before Roman A. bought the club. Veron, Crespo, Sidwell, Sheva, etc...
Players i'm glad to see out of this team are Sidwell, Boularouz, Makelele thus far. Makelele was good but getting rather old, plus we have too many midfielders already.
Players i'd like to see leave however....well, the list is long, full of under achievers and money grabbers. Give me just one week of their wages and i'll be happy and content for at least a year or 2.
Pizzaro - waste of space
Anelka - not played in the right position, over aged
Ivanovic - who?
Malouda - sulks, is awful, never done well
Wright-Phillips - i feel sorry for. never given a proper run in the first team since his move from Man City. And when he does get played, he come on as a substitute towards the end of the game.
Sheva - let the guy leave on a free transfer even. What's the point in paying him so much if he's gona rot on the bench for another year or 2? and he's rubbish anyway!
Drogba - sick and tired of his moaning, diving etc.. Someone just bid £20m for him and get him out of there.
Belletti/Ferreira - one of them has to go. Beletti did well last season i thought, but again is quite old now. Ferreira can play anywhere across the back four if he has to and recently signed a new contract, and is also younger, so i'd have to say keep him.
Ben Haim - also must go, useless as ever.
I think the team has too many central midfielders too, but how on earth and why would you want to get rid of Ballack, Lampard, Deco, Essien when they are all world class. Mikel hasn't featured much, but is still young.
Cole has been consistent and it's great to see.
If Robinho is bought, i'd like to see him play out on the left wing like Kalou. He'd bring something to the club they haven't had last season, someone like Robben. Those are the wingers they need. Fast on all accounts, injury free, skillful, attack minded and can score goals. Just to bring an edge to the team.
And a new striker or two. David Villa would be great, Adriano i'm sure would even be a success. Sergio Aguerio though from Atheltico Madrid would be smashing.

Hear Hear
I think out of that list the only player who I feel would have to stay is Anelka, now yes he is gettin on a bit but he is consistent scorer in the premier league, he has not been played in his proper position so I say give him a chance, after all if Drogba was to go and someone like Aguerio or Adriano was to join then surely that combination up front would be enough to scare anyone.
Still think we should have got torres when we had the chance, but here is to a successful season

No no hell no...
I refuse to let people critisize Kalou this way. He may need to work on his finishing and positioning as already mentioned but at times last season, Kalou and Joe Cole were the ones carrying the team. Every Chelsea fan went through depressing times last season and Kalou was the only bright thing at those times.
Quite Frankly - I love Salomon Kalou and his inclusion in the list of "waste of spaces" is completely unjustified. I kindly ask you to reconsider what you wrote...
Thanks

Hey Salomon
I think you will see my comment that maybe I was a bit harsh by adding Kalou to that list and I stand by that decision, I agree he has played some very good games but he does miss some vital areas to his game, but he is young and still learning so there is more to come. I like his direct attacking nature, its the best way to play and a few more goals will come from him

I'm just unsure about what impact Scolari will have on the team. There is no doubt about his credentials on the international level, but it could go either way on the club stage. He certainly has plenty of fanfare coming into this job and adds character to the league, but honestly, they should have never let Jose Mourinho go.

Agreed. Letting Jose go was the biggest mistake Roman Abramovich has ever made. But in the end the two of them came into conflict and there was only going to be one winner. I never expected Jose to stay at the club as long as Ferguson and Wenger have at United and Arsenal, but I expected him to stay until at least 2009/10. Alas, it wasn't meant to be. It was beautiful while it lasted though.
