MLB, AL East, Toronto Blue Jays, Baltimore Orioles, Game Recap

Shaun Marcum struggled in his first start since June 18, since he was only able to last 4 2/3 innings. Despite this, the offense managed to bail him out.

Although he missed a lot of games, he said that it wasn't his arm that was bothering him, but rather the mistakes he made by leaving the ball too high up in the strike zone.

Today also marked a buck in the popular trend that has been going for the offense this year. Instead of the pitchers bailing out on the offense, the offense came through this time with ten runs, and ended up 5-for-7 with runner in scoring position.

Another rare occurrence was the fact that the Jays were able to come from behind, erasing the deficits of 4-0 and 7-6.

The Orioles managed to jump on Marcum early, scoring two on a home run from Nick Markakis. That would be the first of three home runs that the Jays' pitcher would give up.

Fortunately for Marcum, it wouldn't matter much. Adam Lind came through with the best game of his entire career, going 4-for-5 with a homer, three RBI, and two runs. Lind is now hitting .289 this season and .370 since being called up on June 21 for the second time.

John McDonald also proved to be a hero today. His three-run double in the fifth inning put the Jays ahead 8-6 and came in a situation where the Jays have struggled mightily, bases loaded and two outs.

Marcum gave up seven runs (six of them earned) and allowed 12 base runners through his 4.2 innings. Orioles pitcher Garrett Olson didn't fare any better. He went 4.2 innings as well, and gave up six runs on his own.

Up Next: Fireball-er AJ Burnett (10-9) takes on Jeremy Guthrie (6-7).
