Changing the NFL: Things the NFL Could Do Without

The NFL is by far the biggest and best American sport in my opinion, but it also has a few faults, just like other pro sports leagues.
Whether it's a part of the games themselves, an owner, a player, or even a concept—some things just need to go.
The following slides are the top 10 things, in no particular order, that the NFL could really do without.
Sudden Death Overtime
Overtime should not be predicated on a simple coin flip.
I believe that each team should get an equal number of chances to win a game.
Yes, there are three components of every football team, and each is instrumental in winning a game, but something needs to change. Even the new overtime rules for the playoffs aren't good enough in my opinion.
Do what college football does.
Giving Third and Fourth Chances
Everyone makes mistakes because nobody is perfect.
However, if a player takes a second chance for granted and gets in trouble for a second time, then they should be permanently suspended from the NFL.
A perfect example is Adam "PacMan" Jones. He already had his second chance and blew it. Therefore, he should not be able to come back into the NFL ever.
Anti-Touchdown Celebrations
Touchdowns are supposed to be a happy time during football games, so the lack of celebrating for touchdowns has to go.
League rules or not, they should be thrown out, because endzone celebrations are sorely missed.
This is football and it's also supposed to be fun and entertaining—preventing celebrations takes away from the fun.
Having an 18 Game Season
NFL Commission Roger Goodell wants to take away two of the four preseason games and create an 18-game regular season.
I have a better idea: still take away two of the preseason games, but instead of adding two regular season games, end the season prior to the December holidays, and add one extra round of playoffs.
This gives four more teams (two more wild card teams in each conference) a chance get into the playoffs and a chance to win a Super Bowl.
Good Weather Super Bowls
The New York/New Jersey Super Bowl is just the stepping stone for other cold-weather cities to host a championship game.
This is football and the sport should be played in whatever weather Mother Nature throws at it.
There need to be Super Bowls that are in the snow, like in Green Bay, Cleveland, Buffalo, and New England, to name a few.
There have been Super Bowls in the rain and wind, so let's get these teams to play in all weather for the big game.
Lack of a Rookie Salary Cap
This will hopefully get addressed at some point whenever the new collective bargaining agreement is done.
Rookies get paid way too much, which takes away from the hard-earned money proven veterans can earn.
Bottom line: you shouldn't get paid big money until you prove your abilities on the football field, over at least a three-year span upon entering the NFL.
Having the NFL Draft Solely in New York
Move around the draft to other cities that can also benefit from the increase in tourism.
Let's see a draft in Chicago, Boston, or even Cleveland.
Spread the love.
