Motor City Miracle? Armando Galarraga Robbed Of MLB's 21st Perfect Game

History has been made for the third time this season as Armando Galarraga has thrown the 21st perfect game in the history of Major League Baseball, and the third one this season.
Galarraga and the Detroit Tigers achieved perfection when they beat the Cleveland Indians, 3-0.
As is the case with any no-hitter, the defense was just as responsible for the feat as the pitcher. In the 5th inning, Indians first baseman Russell Branyan hit a ground ball that bounced off Galarraga's foot. Brandon Inge picked it up on the hop, and was able to throw Branyan out just in time.
What may have been an even better play was in the ninth inning. Second baseman Mark Grudzielanek hit a fly ball deep to left center, and Austin Jackson made a running catch, just barely grabbing it.
Detroit's offense was more than enough, as Miguel Cabrera's solo home run in the second inning was all that Galarraga needed.
As expected, while the Indians' offense was on the field, Galarraga kept to himself on the Tigers' bench. Whether it was to avoid anyone jinxing the no-hitter, or to keep to himself so as not to throw off his rhythm, it worked.
Or at least that's what I wanted to write. Instead, Jason Donald is called safe despite Galarraga tagging him out by a mile.
Umpire Jim Joyce, who called him safe, will never, ever, live this down. It's a dark mark in MLB history.
