The Open Mic topic this week asked which athletes should retire and which of those who did should not have.

Athletes who need to retire:

When I think of more, I will add them. Look for a separate article about those who retired too early and those who should of retired earlier.

  1. I'd add these guys to the list

    Pedro Martinez
John Daly (if he hasn't already)
    Andy Roddick
    Shaquille Oneal

  2. Why should Todd Bodine retire when he's rated 4th, 6th in points, and has a win on the season in the Truck Series??? That don't make no damn sense...

If you were going to name a driver, where's James Hylton on your list???

    1. I forgot he was in the truck series. I meant from the cup series.

  3. Jon Kitna

    The NBA Development League

    Greg Maddux

    Joe Paterno

    Dave Marcus

    1. I forgot about Dave Marcus, the racer. I have not heard his name in years. About another one to add to my list, Derrick Cope?

  4. We sure do love to bury guys!! What is wrong with someone doing what they love to do for as long as they think they can get it done? The market place tells them when they are finished! If the Mets released Pedro thinking he was washed up there would be 10-15 teams grabbing him at a cheap price. They wouldn't pay millions but you know they would take a shot at the guy at a reasonable price. When the market no longer is willing to pay for your services then it is over! That is not to say I don't admire people that go out on top. But I am not of the belief that someone tarnishes their image by hanging on one more year. Does Brett Favre want to come back?? Then he should come back! The market will decide if he still has the talent to get it done!

As far as racing goes...I say WAY TO GO to James Hylton for still doing what he loves to do. He showed the world that in good equipment he can still get the job done! Junior Hanley and Dick Trickle were still winning races in their older years! Dick will be back next year!
