Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol: Best Working Guard-Big Man Duo in Today's NBA?

Evan MasseyCorrespondent IMay 31, 2010

I was thinking about writing up a new article, but I couldn't figure out a subject for it, finally it him me, writing one up about the teamwork between Bryant and Gasol would be perfect. There are many reasons why they work so well together and I'm going to try to break everything down for you guys, and hopefully you agree with me!

1. Both Players Have High Basketball I.Q.

The first thing that really matters when two players work so well together, is knowing the game of basketball. When Bryant is dribbling the ball and comes off a Gasol screen, he knows to look for a roll from Pau, and also Pau knows to roll (which quite a few big men in the NBA don't seem to understand). Half of the reason they get open looks at the bucket is because of that reason right there.

2. Communicate Easily on the Court

If you've ever watched these two closely, they have a way on the court to make eye contact and know what the other is doing, and even if they don't pick up on the eye contact, just a one or two word yell will tell the other one exactly what to do. You'll see the yelling part mostly when Pau has an open lane to the bucket that he doesn't see, and Kobe will yell, "Go," and that frees up Gasol to get an easy bucket.

Those are actually the two things that I wanted to bring up in this article. There's not really much outside of knowing what to do playing the game of basketball, and being able to help each other out communicate. Now, I also wanted to get your guys' opinions on whether or not the Gasol-Bryant tandem is the best guard to big man duo in the NBA.

What do you guys think?
