It has been announced today that the football team has added Auburn to its 2009 non-conference schedule.

Although it was formally announced today, this has been in the works since at least Nov. 2006, when I wrote a story in the DN on Nov. 3, 2006, about all of our paydays. It's buried in one of the last graphs of the story, but I mentioned it and we'll receive $800,000 for that game. Holy mackeral. The athletic department received $725,000 for Nebraska and $495,000 for Michigan in 2006.

I am a mixed bag of emotion on this. If Nate Davis comes back for his senior year, this will be an unbelievably great game. If he doesn't, we'll be going into this with a brand new quarterback (either Kelly Page or Aaron Mershman) which could spell disaster.

Here's hoping we do a little better in 2009 than the previous two games, in which Auburn won 38-0 in 2001 and 63-3 in 2005. We're averaging 1.5 ppg against the Tigers...awesome....if we're playing soccer.

Other non-conference games scheduled for 2009 are North Texas and Army, I believe. The Auburn game will be on Sept. 26.
