Keep em, trade em, buy em out?
Darryl will be at the helm again this year for the flames. Now the question is how does he manage what the team has for this upcoming season. Let's take a look and see what everyone has to say
Jarome has been the face of the team since the mid to late 90's. I believe he has some good if not great seasons left in him.
Injuries and age seem to be catching up with the gritty forward. He is a warrior but at a 4.5 million cap hit should the flames be looking to part ways with langkow? Personally i'm a huge fan and think on the right team could be a great role player but he has always been looked to for secondary scoring which may not be a role he is not capable of.
Many people say the flames overpaid for the young center. Only time will tell but stajan has a good upside on the offensive end of the ice and is very underrated in the defensive end. He may be a cheaper langkow with less grit but potentially more offensive numbers
If bourque can put together a injury free season the big power forward could produce some pretty high goal totals. Even in the last couple of year with injuries he has proven to be a very effective player in every aspect of the game and his offensive numbers should get him some more time on the pp
Hagman is a talented goal scorer with a very nice set of hands which allows him to create his own chances. It is something the flames do not have much of if he can find some chemistry with either stajan or backlund could provide a large boost on a second line
Moss is a very inconsistent player but when he is on can score in short spurts. His defensive play is his downfall but if he could learn the role of a holmstrom or smyth could be a valuable role player on the first or second pp unit
the speedy winger has been a valuable penalty killer and when using his body and a wrecking ball can be very hard player to play against. consistency is the drawback of number 20 though
Kotalik has drawn the attention of flames nation and not in a good way. his offensive skills are there but his disappearing acts during a large number of games are what people seem to notice the most. For a big bodied forward Kotalik seems to think that if he just stands in the offensive zone the opposition will be so intimidated by him they will just give him the puck. Maybe it's time for a new strategy or go to the khl and try it (please it will save us buying you out)
The small forward started off very strong the last season then went into a mid season funk compiled with an injury he missed some time. When he got back into the line-up near the end of the season started to find his scoring touch again. For 850,000 bucks he produced very well actually
The young Swedish forward is the best flames forward prospect since iginla and didn't disappoint when he drew into the lineup last year. The 2 way game that has been installed at the minor league level is seeming to payoff and if he can gain some strength in the off season he could be one the dark horses for the calder next year
The prize of last years free agents class had a disappointing first season from an offensive standpoint in calgary. With a year under a new system and a new partner the flames are hoping that the offensive production comes back to their big ticket dman
People are saying this shutdown dman has lost a step but every team needs a steady crushing blueliner and regehr sure fits the bill and is just entering his 30's he surely has a few seasons in the tank
There is no questioning sarich's heart on the back end but with cap room an issue he could help lead a young defence and be some trade bait for the flames to address some other issues
The gritty former enemy of the flames played alright after his acquisition from the provincial rival but at 2.7 million the flames may look to shed the veteran defense man to bring up a younger, cheaper set of legs
Last year was definitely giordano's coming out party. Every aspect of his game seemed to come together last year and was the teams best defense man through the course of the entire season. He appears to be have the whole package. Good positionally, great hands, big hits and determination
The big east coaster seemed to take a step back last year. He watched alot of games from the press box last year and if pelech or another young dman cracks the line up pardy may find himself in the minors or on another team
Hopefully the mvp of the flames can replicate the season he just came off of. If he is able to and the team can score some goals the flames will be a force to be reckoned with. Last year was a vezina type season that was diminished by the poor play in front of him
Well the red mile took a year off due to the disappointing season but it will soon be the draft, free agency then before we know it the home opener. These are the players currently under contract. So weigh in and take a guess on what Darryl will do with the line up
