good one, but i think summers should be a little higher. he was pretty good this year

indeed your right Alan! Chris Summers has much potential to put up many points during the course of the season. He's one of those kickers im going to be interested in watching this year.

reasons? justifications? stats? otherwise, what's the point of the article?

i agree with james and evan but good to point out kickers. they dont get enough respect

i agree that they dont get much respect. over the course of the next few days, im going to give alot more insight in the top elite colleges in each position. i look forward to your responses then...

Um, no list is for real unless it includes Kai Forbath of UCLA. Ranked #3 in the nation as a freshman with over 83% success in field goals. He made all field goals from beyond the 50, 3 for 3.
from 4 months ago
Kai Forbath was on my before i narrowed it down to a top 30. UCLA has a great kicker in Kai Forbath, who was 25-of-30 last season and made all five of his attempts from 50 yards or more. Great point Pat! some see him well deserved of Top 15 honors.

You forgot Kevin Kelly of Penn State. He had a dreadful 2006, but recovered in 2007....
from 4 months ago
Kevin Kelly may be "his own worst enemy sometimes," as Joe Paterno has suggested. But he did make 20-of-26 field goal attempts as a junior, finishing fourth in the Big Ten in scoring. But im still not too sure if that should give him Top 15 honors.

You make a good point.

Wes Byrum of Auburn was excluded off that list. He is indeed one the top 15 kickers in the land.
from 4 months ago
You might be right, Bennett! Wes Byrum kicked 17 field goals as a true freshman last season, including a memorable last-second do-over that beat Florida, proving Tuberville's contention that nothing rattles his kicker.

I don't know for all of these but you list Clemson's kicker, and Wake's kicker Sam Swank I would say is a better kicker in the ACC
4 months ago
I see where your coming from. Sam Swank holds almost all of the school kicking records and should be one of the nation's best this season. He certainly is a top 20 in my book.

And I can't believe you ARE listing Clemson's kicker. Didn't he lose Clemson the game against Georgia Tech by missing a hatful of field goals?
And he hardly covered himself in glory against South Carolina, either?

What about Mike Salerno out of Northern Illinois? He's perfect this year so far.
Michael Cklamovski from Illinois, although not kicking field goals right now, seems to have a huge leg with extreme potential? All it takes is a tryout for the league...

Have you heard of Jose Martinez from UTEP?? You guys need to do your studying right and redo this poll. Martinez kicked a 64 yard kick, which is second longest in NCAA HISTORY, against the UCF Knights on September 27, 2008. I know he should be among the rest of these kickers because he is an incredible kicker.
from about 1 month ago
Notice that i wrote this article before the season began. Jose Martinez is being overlooked by many. at the beginning of the season, i saw him as possibly the best kicker in the C-USA. but i dont see him as a top kicker this year with the team that he plays for. even though he did finish as a Groza Award finalist last year. i sorta see where youre coming from.

How the heck is Graham Gano from Florida State nowhere on this list?!! Let's compare stats of Jeff Wolfert, who is pegged here as #1 vs Gano for 2008:
Gano has 90% FG success. Wolfert has 80.
Gano has hit 2 more FGs than Wolfert.
Gano is 5 for 7 in FGs 50+ yards (that's 3rd in college football history and the season's not done yet.), whereare Wolfert has only hit one over 50 yards and it was still 2 yards shorter than the 2 53-yarders booted by Gano.
In fact the only stat where Wolfert beats Gano is in total points which is because of extra point kicks (which has more to do with the rest of the offense scoring TDs than the kicker's skill.)
I can't believe Gano is so far superior to your #1 pick yet he's nowhere to be found on a list of the top 15! How about a revision...?
