Washington Wizards, Gilbert Arenas
After dropping the first five games of the 2007-08 NBA season and losing Gilbert Arenas to a bum knee, the Washington Wizards were in a hole.

Eleven days later, the team is dominating the opposition—even without their All-Star leader.

Last night, the Wizards built a 37-point lead en route to a 116-101 demolition of the Philadelphia 76ers.

Bench scoring from Andray Blatche (who scored a career-high 26 points Tuesday), DeShawn Stevenson, and rookie Nick Young has sparked the team—as has a players-only meeting held shortly before the Wizards' first win of the season against the Atlanta Hawks.

The result?

A five game-winning streak, which has seen the Wizards climb back to .500.

Arenas has missed Washington's last two games, but seems to be relishing the up-tempo basketball his teammates have been playing. The Wizards have utilized their speed and youth in running the floor and lighting up the scoreboard.

Arenas is expected to miss tonight's game in Charlotte as his knee continues to recover. If the Wizards can keep moving the ball with crisp passing in their offensive sets, their franchise player should get all the rest he needs.

  1. Im just wondering why this is tagged under the NFL?

  2. it's not actually.

  3. Such great news knowing Gilbert is resting
is they. You know the start is important but
even if the Wiz was still loosing the health of
Gil for the long haul is more important.

All of the teams are doomed when they go
west and that keep the team in the hunt.

  4. NO Gil for 3 months, these guys are going to take a hit.

  5. They won again tonight. They are playing great team ball and this is now Caron Butler's team. Worst NBA trade in the last ten years: Lakers dealing Caron for Kwame Brown.
