Pittsburgh Steelers: 13-2-1 And AFC North Champions
13-2-1. Sounds crazy doesn't it? I know, but anything is possible, especially in the NFL.
I have a really good feeling about the Steelers this year. They had a good draft, got some old faces back, and are returning to Steelers football. At first I had them going 16-0, but that was before Big Ben got in trouble and Holmes got traded.
So in light of recent events, I've narrowed my stance. So here are my predictions for the season. Lets begin.
Here's the link to my previous slideshow if you haven't read it yet.
Week 1: Atlanta Falcons
The Steelers open the 2010 season at home against the Atlanta Falcons. They are without Big Ben so Dennis Dixon is the starter. The Steelers are the home favorites.
Both teams try to run ball. Only the Steelers find success scoring 2 rushing TD's on the day. Dennis Dixon goes 12/15 and a TD. The Falcons try to pass their way out of Pittsburgh but the Steel Curtain holds.
Steelers win 24-10.
Week 2 @ Tenessee Titans
The Steelers hit the road to play Chris Johnson and the Titans. The Steelers are still mad about them stomping on the terrible towel two years ago.
This will be a close game. The Steelers will hold Johnson to under 100 yards rushing forcing Young to go pass happy. On the other hand, the Titans shut down our running game and when that happens, you know who goes pass happy again.
The good news is Dixon tears up the weak Titans secondary going 19/25 256 yards 1 TD, and breaks a long run from the Wildcat. Sadly, it won't be enough to come away with a win.
Titans narrowly win 16-13.
Week 3 @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
It's week 3 and the Steelers travel down to hot Tampa Bay to take on the Buccaneers.
This game will be over before it starts. The Steelers tear up the Bucs on both sides of the ball. The D gets 3 INTS, Dixon goes 22/28 301 yards 2TD's and 1 rushing, and the running game runs up, down, and around the Bucs scoring 2 TD's.
Steelers win in a blowout 45-6.
Week 4: Baltimore Ravens
It's time to host the Ravens in Pittsburgh. This game will be a fight till the last second. Both teams upgraded defensively over the offseason and both of them are put to the test.
Neither team can run the ball on the other forcing the QB's to pass to win. This is a welcome sight to the Steelers LB's who harass Flacco all day totaling 6 sacks and 3 sack strips, plus 2 INTS.
Dixon doesn't do much better as the Ravens are prepared for him this time. He gets sacked 4 times and throws 2 picks.
Neither team scores a TD. In the end, the Steelers get the ball last and march down the field to kick the game winning field goal.
The Steelers hang on to win 12-9.
Week 6: Cleveland Browns
After playing the Ravens, the Steelers are a little banged up. But with a bye the week before, everyone's ready to play again.
This game will be good because Big Ben returns from his suspension and what better way to shake off any rust than to play the Browns, right?
This game will not be close. Ben doesn't come out passing a lot but he still manages to throw for 225 yards and 2 TD's. The running game worked all day and pounded the Browns into submission, also scoring two TD's.
The defense has a field day against Delhome picking him off 5 times and sacking him 6 times.
Steelers win at home 31-6.
Week 7 @ Miami Dolphins
The Steelers travel down to Miami, Florida to take on the Dolphins. The Steelers are on a 3 game winning streak and have the best record in the AFC at 4-1.
With the return of Ronnie Brown from injury and the addition of Brandon Marshall from FA, the Dolphins offense will not be as easy to defend.
But somehow the Steelers pull it off with no 4th qtr meltdowns. They sack Henne 5 times and get an INT. In the meantime the Steelers are tearing up the Dolphins with a very well balanced offensive attack.
Ben scores two TD's while the running game scores three. The Dolphins manage some points as well, but not enough.
Steelers win 38-17.
Week 8 @New Orleans Saints
The battle of the black and gold.
The Steelers travel to New Orleans to kick off 3 straight games in prime time. They take on the new Superbowl Champions Saints.
Even though it was their fault they lost their crown, the Steelers will look at it as the Saints stealing it and will look for revenge. Playing in the Superdome will not be easy. It will be loud and they won't be able to tell the fans apart unless they have a towel.
The Steelers still put up a valiant fight scoring 4TD's. But the Saints respond in the same fashion. The game goes down to the last second with the Saints kicking a last second field goal to snap the Steelers win streak at four.
Saints win 31-28. The Steelers are 5-2.
Week 9 @ Cinncinati Bengals.
The Steelers are pissed at their lost to New Orleans. Plus they're still mad about getting swept by the Bengals last year.
So they let out all their frustration against the Bengals. They dominate from jump street, quickly getting on the board and not looking back. Big Ben has a lights out day passing for 4 TD's and 367 yards. The running game doesn't do as well but still manages a TD.
The Bengals score a field goal to keep themselves from being shutout, but it didn't matter. The Steelers came with a purpose and they fulfilled it.
Steelers dominate 35-3.
Week 10: New England Patriots
The Steelers are back home for two weeks and they start by taking on the rival Patriots.
Unfortunately, home field has not been kind to them against the Patriots. However, the Steelers are determined to not let history repeat itself. They grind it out with the Patriots to the final seconds.
Then with only 35 seconds left, Brady is picked off by Polamalu who returns it for a TD sealing their victory.
Steelers win 21-14. They're now 7-2.
Week 11: Oakland Raiders
The Steelers host the Raiders in a rematch from last year. This time the defense holds. No 4th quarter meltdowns, no last minute game winning drive, none of that.
The Steelers take this game and run with it, literally. They score a total of 4 rushing TD's against the Raiders. The Raiders, well they score a big goose egg.
Steelers win 28-0.
Week 12 @ Buffalo Bills
The Steelers travel to cold Buffalo to take on the Bills. The Steelers are used to the cold so it shouldn't bother them that much.
The Bills will get cocky and try to run the ball against the Steelers with Spiller. It never works. The Steelers shut down Spiller and the rest of their offense. The Steelers will have no trouble running the ball rushing for 3 scores.
Steelers win 24-6.
Week 13 @ Baltimore Ravens
Another knock down dragout between the Steelers and Ravens. Only difference is both offenses perform better this time and each team scores one TD.
The Ravens missed a game winning field goal so the game goes to OT. Neither team can score at all so the game ends in a tie.
The Steelers are 9-2-1
Week 14: Cinncinati Bengals
The Steelers are half a game ahead of the Ravens in the Division when the Bengals come to town.
This will be closer than it needs to be. The Bengals are upset at how they got embarrassed at their field. They put up a good fight scoring 3 TD's and sacking Ben 3 times.
However, Ben leads the Steelers on a game winning drive to win the game 24-21.
Week 15: New York Jets
Next the Steelers face the Jets at home. The Jets are living up to their hype and they come to Heinz Field determined to win. But when you enter Steeler Country, you're asking for a fight.
What a fight it will be as both defenses shut down the others offenses. Neither team can score a point. Whoever has the ball last will win. Fortunately it's the Steelers. Ben marches them down field to score the game winning TD, the only score of the game.
Steelers win 7-0.
Week 16: Carolina Panthers
This is the Steelers last home game of the season. They are all but assured of making the playoffs. They show the Panthers no mercy.
Dick Lebeau keeps rookie QB Jimmy Clausen confused and on his back all night. Meanwhile the offense is pounding away at the Panthers with the ground game scoring 3 TD's.
Steelers win their last game at home 21-6.
Week 17 @ Cleveland Browns
The NFL made the last week of the regular season all division games so playoff teams wouldn't rest their starters and affect the implications of other teams.
The Steelers close their season out against the Browns. Not much of a game really. Ben throws for 255 yards and 2 TD's before sitting out the second half. The Browns couldn't muster anything on offense or defense.
Steelers win 28-3. They are 13-2-1 and have beaten the Ravens by a tiebreaker to become AFC North Champions. They have first place in the playoffs with home field throughout and a bye.
This ends my predictions for the season.
