Ahhhh, summertime...Can you feel it? Almost here!

Summertime—that break you wish could last forever until the weather got nippy. Summertime—when you would normally take off from work and school to unwind, relax and forget about your worries for a few weeks (or months). Summertime—also a magical time of the year when you would fall in love with a special someone, perhaps, that girl of your dreams whom you finally got the moxie to ask out on a date—ignorant of whether she said 'yes,' or...plain-out rejected you.

Blue Crush was a movie that had that vibe back in 2002, a B-movie, sleeper surfer-flick, starring Kate Bosworth, Michelle Rodriguez and Sanoe Lake. With Blue Crush in mind, here's my ode to the 10 most dazzling, ultra-hot female surfers to ride the waves (and break dudes' hearts across the land in the process).

10. Lani Doherty

Lani-doherty_display_image

Maui native? Parents used to surf? Grew up near a cove? Check, check and check! Are these the requirements of a real-life Little Mermaid? Nope, we’re just talking about the finest (almost-legal) babe in the surfing world—Lani Doherty! Not just a very pretty face, the 17-year-old Doherty won the women’s open and junior women’s division in Maui in May 2008.

At the SIMA US Championships, she finished fourth. As a member of the USA Surf Team in the Girls Under 18 competition in the World Games last year, she made it to the third round. Popularity and fortune (plus annoying paparazzi and admirers) are only going to continue along Lani’s path to superstardom.

9. Karina Petroni

Both leggy and lean, Karina Petroni is not only a graceful surfer. Besides citrus, sun and South Beach excitement, Petroni is definitely another natural wonder of Florida. She made a hit and had tongues wagging with her "Wanderlust" video series.

Along with great genes and a steady following, the chick's got talent: runner-up at the 2007 US Open of Surfing, 15th place on the Women’s World Tour in 2008. Sky's the limit to whatever Karina tries to conquer in the future.

8. Megan Abubo

As the World Championship Tour (WCT) runner-up in 2001, the surfing world knew of the Hawaii beauty’s potential, as she claimed victory in the 2002 WCT Figueira Pro in Portugal and again in 2004 at the WCT Rip Curl in Malibu, California. She also appeared in "Blue Crush" with Kate Bosworth and Michelle Rodriguez, and is an active breast cancer awareness spokesperson (on behalf of her sister, who was diagnosed in her 20s). You go, Megs!

7. Daize Shayne

Cali native. Two-time longboard surfing champ. Released an album in 2005 (Live Your Dreams). Appeared in Maxim magazine. Featured in a 16-page spread with Britney Spears of ReadyGo Magazine Japan. Must I continue? DS is ¡en fuego!

6. Jenny Useldinger

Gorgeous, natural smile, and ethereal way about her. Dream girl material from head to toe. Even as she recovered from a bad knee injury in a wipeout in 2006, Useldinger, 25, remains afloat.

The Santa Cruz, Calif., native has seen it all, thanks to her mother, Anne Bayly, who cruised with the family in the waters of the Caribbean, Pacific and Atlantic Oceans when Useldinger was younger. Although not as competitive over the years as her fellow surfmates on this list, her spirituality, beautiful personality, self-worth and purpose in the water should be enough to rank her just as high as the rest.

5. Hailey and Sierra Partridge

In the picture, Sierra's to the left; Hailey's to the right. Or...maybe it's the other way around...The 22-year-old fraternal (or is it identical?) twins of Santa Cruz, Calif., (what's in the water in Santa Cruz!?), have learned much from their father Rym Partridge, a former pro surfer, especially in how to deal with the rough waves and tough doses of reality.

Despite the fame and advertisement deals from companies such as O'Neill and Hobie Surfboards, the Sisters Partridge were born with cataracts. This eye ailment still affects them both: Hailey has poor night vision; Sierra has cloudy vision in her right eye. Regardless of their optical problems, they're still super-sweet twin girls—twins, man!—and smokin' hot.

4. Malia Jones

With that come-hither stare Malia Jones often famously produces while posing for pictures (such as the one above), the Loma Linda, Calif., native could possibly melt all the ice caps. (And turn room-temp water to steam within seconds.)

Jones, 33, began surfing while young (under 10 years old). Honing her skills at a premature age most likely gave her the confidence and experience to win the girls division of the US Amateur Surfing Championship when she was 15. The lovely Ms. Jones has appeared in ads for American Express, as well as Sports Illustatred, Surfing Magazine, Cosmopolitan, and Glamour. (But she'll most certainly be on my mind for days to come!)

3. Holly Beck

As a person of natural talent who can also be considered a late comer, Beck learned to surf while on vacation in Hawaii at the age of 15. After practicing for months at four in the morning, she joined her high school surf team and won the Bay League Championship.

Her success as a member of the National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) led to her endorsement deal with Rusty's Surfboards, the largest surfboard manufacturer. The amazing Holly Beck has led a multi-talented life as a surfer, model and nerd. As Ms. Photogenic/Telegenic, she's appeared in magazines such as Rolling Stone and the reality TV show "Beach House: North Shore" on the now-defunct WB channel; as a scholar, she graduated from UCLA with a degree in management science.

Be it by electromagnetic, water, or intellectual waves, Holly's a triple threat!

2. Anastasia Ashley

Don't let the innocent, coy looks fool you: Anastasia will eat you alive with her bod and her skills. The 23-year-old Beverly Hills-based surfer girl is definitely a hottie in and out of the water: Anastasia has won the National Scholastic Surfing Association’s women’s championship and the Pro Surf Tour of America’s women’s tour championship, while being fortunate enough to have her own signature shoe line with Airwalk and is getting to work on possible film projects.

Though free time is limited, she has been noted to spend some quality time with Nick Hogan, former pro wrestler Hulk Hogan's son. Although she loves wearing scantily-clad outfits and is extremely confident in her awesome appearance, in addition, she's a member of PETA, and doesn't do drugs or drink. Other than a very impressive physique, you must say her morals are spot-on, too.

1. Christa Alves

If that photo to the left doesn't make you feel good about the summer, then I hope you drown. Seriously, the bodacious Floridian is not fool's gold. Neither is she just a regular bikini-wearing beauty looking to stretch peacefully in the sun for a nice, bronze tan.

Ms. Alves has graced the seas with her board, winning several awards like the 2006 ASP North American Juniors Competition and the 2008 ASP North America Pro Junior women's championship, not to mention a handful of East Coast and National Junior Championships. The provocative 21-year-old Christa Alves is blessed with pulchritude—and the ability to artfully rip the waves at the same time. That's why she's No. 1 in my book.

Surf's Up! Aloha.
