Wandy Rodriguez was superb on the mound for the Astros as he allowed only one earned run on nine hits in his 6 2/3 innings of work.
The Astros took an early lead in the bottom of the second when Hunter Pence grounded out to short which drove in Carlos Lee. In the bottom of the very next inning the Astros added two more runs on singles by both Carlos Lee and Miguel Tejada to give them a 3-0 lead.
The Astros would add another run in the bottom seventh on a groundout by Darin Erstad that drove in David Newhan.
The Cubs lone run on the night came off the bat of Carlos Zambrano who homered in the top of the seventh making the score at the time 3-1.
Zambrano did not fare as well on the mound as did at the plate. He put in 6 1/3 innings allowing four earned runs on six hits while striking out three and walking six batters. Zambrano is now 10-4 with the loss.
The Cubs are now 57-40 and are only two games up on the Cardinals while the Brewers are just three back.
Tomorrow the Cubs will try to avoid the sweep as they send Ryan Dempster to the mound who is 10-4 with 3.25 ERA versus Brandon Backe who is 6-9 with 4.76 ERA goes for the Astros. Game time is set for 1:05 pm ct.
