Today in Lodz, Poland Krzysztof “Diablo” Wlodarczyk won the vacant WBC cruiserweight title with a TKO 8 against Giacobbe Fragomeni.

This is the second time Wlodarczyk has held a cruiserweight title. He previously held the IBF title from 2006 until 2007.

Wlodarczyk controlled the fight all the way through and won easily. He controlled rounds one through five with his superior boxing before putting Fragomeni down in the sixth.

Fragomeni was having his best round in the six before he was hit cleanly with a right hand counter hook. He didn’t appear to be that hurt and took the count.

Fragomeni put together a nice seventh round but was to far behind at this point. Again late in the round he took some good shots from Diablo.

Diablo put him down again with a big right hand in the eighth and opened a cut over Fragomeni’s eye. The referee then called off the fight.

Fragomeni looked every day of his 40 years and should be headed for retirement soon. With the win Wlodarczyk avenged the draw between the to back in 2009.

There aren’t many big fights that can me made at cruiserweight but a third fight with Steve Cunningham would be interesting.

Fragomeni was classy as ever after the fight and I hope for his sake he packs it up soon before he gets hurt. Wlodarczyk moves to 43-2-1 with 32 knockouts while Fragomeni falls to 26-3-1 with 10 knockouts.

In front of a packed house in Poland Krzysztof Wlodarczyk wins the WBC cruiserweight title with a TKO in the eighth round.
