Today in West Ham Michael Katsidis defended his interim WBO lightweight title with a TKO 3 over Kevin Mitchell.

Mitchell falls to 31-1 with 23 knockouts while Katsidis moves to 27-2 with 22 knockouts. It was a somewhat slow fight until Katsidis unloaded on Mitchell in the third.

He hurt Mitchell early in the round and to the credit of Mitchell he lasted for almost two minutes before Katsidis finally ended the fight.

Katsidis proved to be to powerful for the upstart Brit. This was a devastating loss for Mitchell so it will be interesting to see if he can rebuild.

Katsidis ended matters with a left hook. He is the interim champion for the WBO and hopefully a fight with Juan Manuel Marquez can be made in the near future.

Katsidis could be a major player in the lightweight division after this win. His two losses are to top fighters Joel Cassamayor and Juan Diaz.

He has good power and his boxing seems to be improving with every fight. I would give him a chance against any lightweight in the world at a moment.

Michael Katsidis retains his title with a TKO 3 over Kevin Mitchell in front of 20,000 plus people. It was a very impressive crowd and a very electric one.
