NBA Free Agency 2010: What Team Entices LeBron James the Most?
Cleveland fans sat at the Q arena last night and experienced yet another disappointing end to a promising season. Two years in a row the Cavs were the hottest team going into the playoffs only to have it cut short last year by the Orlando Magic in the Conference Finals and this year by the Boston Celtics in an early 2nd round exit.
With the Cavs coming into Boston facing elimination, the Boston fans knew they had to take LeBron and the rest of the team out of the game the best they could, and they did just that. Sure LeBron got a triple double, and Mo Williams came up big, but in the end, the fans seemed to get into every Cleveland Cavaliers players and fans heads.
With Cleveland fans expecting a ring this year after acquiring Shaq, Boston shattered yet another dream for Cleveland and the fans put the icing on the cake by chanting "New York Knicks" every time Lebron went to the Free Throw Line.
Cleveland fans are worried that it was the last game they will ever see LeBron in a Cavalier uniform but everyone else is on the edge of their seat waiting to see what LeBron will do next.
There are four possible teams that could really entice LeBron to end up at:
1.Cleveland Cavaliers: Everyone seems to think this was going to be LeBron's last season as a Cavalier if he didn't win a ring and they may be right. With Mike Brown maybe being fired, and if the Cavaliers didn't have enough of a supporting cast to win a championship this season with Moon, Williams, Shaq, and West, they definitely won't be able to win a ring next season. The two big men, Shaq and the Big Z, if not both, at least Shaq will most likely be off the team next season. And unless then make some miraculous trade, they don't have enough money to sign in a big Free Agent name like Joe Johnson, Dwayne Wade, or Chris Bosh to help keep LeBron in Cleveland. Although he does have many friends and family in the Cleveland area, this is a business and he is on the hunt after seven years to finally win a Championship.
2.New York Knicks: It has been the rumor all year long that the Knicks will land LeBron this off season. With only 3 returning players and about 30 million dollars to work with, the Knicks have the ability to sign two big Free Agent names like LeBron and Joe Johnson, or Bosh, or even Wade etc. But the only problem with him going to the Knicks is that New York doesn't really have the supporting cast to win a championship even after getting two big names in Free Agency. Sure they will be a great Playoff contender right away but with only two big name players they won't be able to stop the Orlando Magic and especially not the powerful Los Angeles Lakers. So the New York Knicks landing LeBron is a little slimmer than everyone may think. Although, if he signs with the Knicks, he will be a VERY rich man. Probably getting a nice 15 Million dollar paycheck along with his endorsement being doubled in NYC.
3.Chicago Bulls: This just came up recently that Chicago is really interested in LeBron James. Playing along Noah and Rose could really inspire LeBron to end up in Chicago, but I highly doubt it. Rose and James are both game changers and huge scorers and I personally think it would end up exactly like the Rip and Allen Iverson debacle. Noah and Rose would be a great supporting cast don't get me wrong, but I don't think it will be enough to win a championship unless they are able to make a big trade getting someone else in there.
4.New Jersey Nets: With the worst record in the league this season, they still have a GREAT chance to inspire LeBron James to come to New Jersey. With a potential number 1 draft pick in the draft to pick up the outstanding guard John Wall and having young talented players like Brooke Lopez, Courtney Lee and of course the veteran Devin Harris, and a new owner with about 9 billion dollars in the pocket and looking to spend a lot of money to make the team better, they have a great chance of landing LeBron James and another big name free agent. If the Nets were able to make this move, they will automatically be a Conference Finals contender, and if they make the right moves maybe even a Championship Contender.
LeBron looked really nervous at his post game conference like he was trying to hide something and didn't want to start a riot in Cleveland saying he was going to leave. Don't expect LeBron to make a move the first day of Free Agency. He is going to search the market and see what each team is doing and see who benefits him the most. You can be sure he will jump at the chance to play alongside Dwayne Wade, Bosh, Boozer etc. But we will see. In my opinion, we just seen LeBron James' very last game as a Cleveland Cavalier.
