Lincoln Passes Vote For Arena, Huskers Land a New Home

Jacob MeisterContributor IMay 13, 2010

The heavily debated and controversial Haymarket Arena was passed in Lincoln today with 56 percent of the vote.  The city will now move forward with the building of a 344 million dollar project in the hopes of creating a vibrant area for not only athletics, but entertainment as well.

The Huskers have played their home basketball game at the Devaney Center since 1976.  The historic arena has been part of the blame for the struggles of the Husker program because of the dated facilities and poor home atmosphere it creates for the team.

The University is hoping the new area will generate interest in the program and will help grab better recruits as the team battles to make their mark in the conference.
