10 Current Athletes Crazier Than Milton Bradley
Milton Bradley's recent meltdown in Seattle was another chapter in a tumultuous career for one of baseball's most notorious hotheads. Bradley's antics, including leaving the dugout, screaming at umpires and flicking off fans, however, make him just another in a line of current athletes who in their own way can be considered even crazier than the Mariners' outfielder.
From the hardwood to the gridiron to the links to the ice, the sports world is loaded with athletes who can make Bradley seem almost normal in comparison. Here is a look at 10 athletes that make even Milton Bradley think, "Well, at least I'm not HIM."
Michael Beasley
Beasley first encountered some off the court issues when he was told to leave the NBA's Rookie Transition Program under the suspicion of marijuana use (though he was never charged with any of the actions).
But Beasley hit a serious rocky road in the summer of 2009 when he checked into a rehabilitation clinic for vague reasons. One rationale was that his check-in was due to drug rehab. Other reasoning spoke to a personal crisis regarding the pressure of professional sports upon him and a resulting personal meltdown.
But his Twitter meltdown including odd pictures that featured weird poses and marijuana paraphernalia (unless your his dad who said the photos did not) had many legitimately questioning the state of Beasley's psyche.
Ron Artest
Ron Artest likes to communicate that he is misunderstood. Well, it is tough to believe that when he attacks fans in the seats, acknowledges drinking cognac at halftime, and shows up to practice in a bathrobe.
That's not even the full list. During his rookie season, Artest applied for a job at Circuit City to get an employee discount. He was suspended two games by the Bulls for asking for a month off due to exhaustion from promoting an R&B album. He smashed television sets and challenged opposing coaches to fights.
Stephon Marbury
Stephon Marbury's latter years in the NBA made news for his off-the-court antics rather than anything he did on the court, especially with the New York Knicks. Marbury reportedly came to blows with former team president Isaiah Thomas on board a team flight. Later, Marbury repeatedly used the media as his mouthpiece to attack Thomas.
When Thomas initiated a drop in playing time for Marbury, the point guard reportedly tried to blackmail Thomas. Marbury also reportedly had sex with MSG intern in the back of an SUV, and soon after was caught calling his wife his "better ho" while answering his cell phone on live television.
And, oh yeah, he also ate Vaseline on his video blog because "they help the crazy pills go down."
Rory Sabbatini
Sabbatini hasn't been too publicly crazy, despite calling out Tiger and getting owned off the course as a result, but this one is more out of personal experience than anything.
During the 2006 Memorial Tournament, Sabbatini airmailed an approach shot over the green. As he approached the green, Sabbatini ripped a water hazard marker out and threw it into the woods. He then began a profanity-laced tirade directed at his caddy. When told by a tournament official that he would be fined if he didn't replace the marker, the official got a taste of Sabbatini's wrath.
Four holes later, Sabbatini was spotted vomiting in a set of trees just off the fairway in the sight of the gallery.
Sean Avery
If there was every one NHL player in need of a filter it is Avery. The Rangers left winger is known for making disparaging comments out ex-girlfriends (the "sloppy seconds comments"). He reportedly made comments regarding another player's diagnosis of leukemia.
Avery also had an altercation with Ducks announcer Brian Hayward in a clubhouse incident. Lastly, Avery initiated his own rule, the "Sean Avery Rule", after he created a new practice of blatantly screening the goalie with full disregard for the game's on-going action.
Terrell Owens
Owens had a relatively quiet year in Buffalo, but who knows if he's really changed from the guy that may or may not have tried to commit suicide, torpedoed two different quarterbacks, called out his quarterback's sexuality, publicly berated coaches on the sidelines, showed schitzo behavior regarding Tony Romo ('das my quarterback!) and did sit-ups in the driveway in front of a media horde.
And that's what we do know about the guy.
Rasheed Wallace
Wallace is supposedly a very cool, calm guy behind the scenes, but what we do know in the forefront makes Wallace one of the bigger loose cannons in sports. His notorious eruptions on the court, constant berating of officials, league-leading amount of technical fouls created a threshold for technical fouls prior to suspension.
Tiger Woods
Tiger isn't quite out-to-lunch crazy, but despite what one thinks of Tiger's personal actions, he has to be a somewhat "crazy" to jeopardize his stature the way he has.
His fall from grace has been tragic in many ways. Who knows exactly what Tiger chased with his women, gambling, and who knows what else, but the risk-taking, given all he built, does have varying degrees of crazy involved.
Pacman Jones
Take your NFL money, surround yourself with the most unsavory of characters armed with pistols and booze and hit up a Vegas strip club. Nothing could go wrong, right?
Except for Adam "Pacman" Jones whose actions instigated a shootout that left one man paralyzed. Later reported indicated that Jones assaulted the strippers, beating one's head against a table and biting her, on top ordering a member of his entourage to fire his weapon.
Rampage Jackson
Rampage gave fans two reasons to think, "yea maybe this is just flat out nuts." One was his participation in a high speed police pursuit that landed him in jail after reportedly staying awake for 96 straight hours on nothing but energy drinks.
Annnnnd then there was this little gem that hit the internet.
