Hunter Pence drove in the game-winning run on a double off Bob Howry to give the Astros a 2-1 victory over the Cubs. Howry suffered the loss and fell to 3-3 on the season.
Ted Lilly was outstanding on the mound for Chicago. He went seven innings allowing just one earned run on six hits while striking out six. The one earned run given up by Lilly was on a home run by Carlos Lee in the bottom of the seventh.
As for Astros starter Brian Moehler, he matched Lilly by allowing only one earned run on just four hits while striking out three. The lone earned run given up by Moehler came in on a fifth-inning homer by Jim Edmonds.
Astros reliever Geoff Geary picked up the victory. He worked two hitless innings, striking out one.
What more can I say? Lilly pitched great; the Cubs could not get a hit off of Moehler. Howry gave up a double to Miguel Tejada, who eventually scored on Pence's double.
Today, the Cubs will send Carlos Zambrano to mound. He is 10-3 with a 2.84 ERA. Wandy Rodriguez, who is 4-3 with 3.48 ERA, goes for the Astros. Game time is set for 6:05 pm CT.
With the loss, the Cubs' record now sits at 57-39. They hold a 3.5-game lead on the Cardinals, who beat the Padres 11-7.
