Gabrielle Union and the Hottest Distractions in Sports History
To make this list you have to obviously be two things...
HOT and a DISTRACTION to a given athlete who is known for performing at a high level.
You can't be one of the two. You have to be both.
For instance, Jeff Gillooly was a distraction to Tonya Harding during the Olympics. But neither of them is...well, I'll just leave it there.
ANNA BENSON is hot. And when she threatened to have sex with every member of the Mets if hubby Kris Benson ever cheated on her? That was a distraction.
But alas, Kris Benson was never a top-tier player.
Now that you have the rules, let's get this party started...
#10 Tawny Kitaen
Tawny Kitaen first came to prominence as the hot chick in all the White Snake videos, (an 80's hair band for all the youngsters).
Later in life she married Chuck Finley, a five time all-star pitcher who played his best years with the California Angels.
Tawny was obviously hot at one time. But was she a distraction to Finley?
Well, late in their marriage, Chuck sought a restraining order after calling the cops and having her arrested. Kitaen was charged with domestic violence.
Stories also came out of her kicking him with her high heels as he drove her home one night.
That can be a distraction.
#9 Tyra Banks
In the early 2000s Chris Webber was the best player on the Sacramento Kings, and they were the second best team in the league. At the time, Chris Webber was also dating Tyra Banks.
While dating Banks, Webber led the Kings to the best record and the league and to the seventh game of the Western Conference Finals.
Unfortunately for the Kings, that is the closest they ever got to a title. Some say that 2002 series was marred by controversial officiating.
Some blame Tyra.
#8 Carmen Electra
Dennis Rodman won a title with Michael Jordan and the Chicago bulls in 1998. Later that year he married notorious party girl, Carmen Electra.
Ten days later, he divorced her, saying he only married her because he was drunk.
Rodman went on to pose in a wedding gown and proclaim that he was marrying himself. The Bulls disbanded, after 1998, causing Jordan to retire and Scottie Pippen and Coach Phil Jackson to move on to other teams.
Rodman never completed another NBA season after his ten day marriage.
#7 Alyssa Milano
Barry Zito and Carl Pavano were two of the most promising pitchers in baseball between 2001 and 2004.
Pavano would win a World Series title with the Marlins, And Zito would win a Cy Young award while pitching with the Oakland A's.
Both of the careers plummeted soon after their breakthrough years. They didn't play for the same team, and didn't even play in the same leagues.
The only thing they had in common...
Alyssa Milano
#6 Gabrielle Union
Dwyane Wade won an NBA title in 2006 as a member of the Miami Heat. At the time he was happily married with two kids.
Then he met actress Gabrielle Union and left his wife.
In what is turning into a messy divorce, Wade's soon to be ex-wife is charging Ms. Union with "playing sexually explicit roles, including roles as a seductress ...in the presence of his two minor children."
Ruh roh.
In related news, Wade has not come close to winning a title since 2006.
I'm just saying...
#5A Bridget Moynahan
Bridget Moynahan is the mother of the Patriots' three time Superbowl winning quarterback, Tom Brady's child.
Tom Brady is now married to Gisele Bundchen.
Bridget is said to not be a big fan of Tom's anymore. So much so, that she didn't speak to him when he was in the delivery room.
Also, she named her baby boy John Edward Thomas... JET.
Not cool.
#5B Gisele Bundchen
This is Brady's current wife, Gisele Bundchen.
Brady hasn't won a championship in over five years. Losing, famously and painfully to the New York Giants a few years back.
One of these two ladies has caused a distraction.
You decide.
#4 Elin Nordegren
Now, I know what you are thinking. How can she be a distraction when the guy was sleeping with over 100 women and winning multiple Grand Slam Championships.
My point exactly. Ever since the alleged golf club / car accident, Tiger Woods has missed a cut and dropped out of a tournament.
Makes sense now, right?
#3 Robin Givens
Mike Tyson was the baddest man on the planet. Then he met Robin Givens and married her in February of 1988. One year later he was divorced after she accused him on a Barbara Walters special of spousal abuse and mental instability.
According to Tyson's Wikipedia page, Givens told Walters that life with the champ was "torture, pure hell, worse than anything I could possibly imagine."
Wow.
A year after that he was losing to a 42-1 underdog named Buster Douglass.
Only a world class distraction could make you lose to a guy named Buster.
#2 Brande Roderick
in 1999 the Chicago Bears drafted Cade McNown with the twefth pick of the first round, and projected him to be their starter for the next decade.
In that same draft, Tim Couch was taken first by the Cleveland Browns and became friends with McNown.
Couch was dating a Playboy Playmate so he brought McNown with him to the Chicago Playboy Mansion to meet Hugh Hefner, the founder of Playboy.
Back then, it was common knowledge to anyone who visited the Mansion that all of the beautiful ladies were fair game EXCEPT for Brande Roderick, because she was dating Hef at the time.
McNown couldn't resist. He stole Brande from Hef and was summarily BANNED from the MANSION.
For LIFE.
(He then stole Couch's fiance, Playmate Heather Kozar, but that's a story for another time).
Within the span of three years, McNown was out of the football and still banned from both Mansions.
Pretty impressive.
#1 Jessica Simpson
In December of 2007, Simpson attended a Cowboys-Eagles game; Romo played terrible and the Eagles won.
Later that year, during the bye week before a playoff game with the Giants, tabloid pictures of Romo and Simpson at a Cabo resort hit newsstands and the internet.
In that game, Romo threw a late interception and the Cowboys season ended.
The two soon parted ways to the delight of Cowboys fans everywhere.
Need more proof, try Googling "YOKO ROMO."
