In one of the worst displays of sportsmanship in MMA history, Paul “Semtex” Daley not only lost a chance at fighting for the 170-pound title, but he also ensured that he’ll never be seen inside the Octagon again. Ever.
After being thoroughly out-wrestled by Josh Koscheck for 15 minutes during Saturday night's UFC 113 throwdown in Montreal, Daley was finally able to land his best punch of the night. Unfortunately, it came about 10 seconds after the fight had ended.
The post-fight cheap shot didn’t please UFC president Dana White, who immediately cut ties with Daley following his despicable display.
“He’s done,” White said of Daley’s fate during the UFC 113 post-fight news conference. “I don’t care if he fights in every show all over the world and becomes the best and everybody thinks he’s the pound-for-pound best in the world.
“He will never fight in the UFC ever again.”
Despite all the trash-talking that took place prior to the co-main event, most MMA fans fully expected the bitter rivals to bury the hatchet when the fight was all said and done—if not extend each other some professional courtesy at the very least.
Koscheck admitted during ESPN2’s MMA Liv e UFC 113 postfight show, that he spent the last minute of the scrap yapping in Daley’s ear, antagonizing the slugger beyond comprehension. Koscheck believes it was what he was saying at the conclusion of the bout that caused the Brit to throw a left-hook at his mug after the final horn had sounded.
Although he wouldn’t specify the not-so-sweet words he was whispering in Daley’s ear, he did sarcastically give him props for the shot.
“It landed,” Koscheck sarcastically said of the sucker-punch. “It was probably his best punch of the fight.”
Daley is highly skilled, and will undoubtedly have no difficulties locating a new home.
However, don’t expect to see him fight anytime soon, as he’ll most likely be suspended following his ill-advised cheap shot.
