Can Drivers Wives Be a Factor In How They Race?

Michael VoyerSenior Analyst IJuly 18, 2008

I understand that drivers do their best week in and week out, however it did dawn on me that maybe the drivers wife has an effect on the drivers performance.

Take for example Brooke and Jeff Gordon, when they were married he did awesome, better than anyone except maybe Earnhardt.  After the divorce he did like crap for a while. Last year he had a kid and got married again, and did great last year.  Not so much this year.

It's not a proven fact nor is it a fact at all, keep in mind this is just an 18 year old thinking here. I may not be an expert but motivation from a wife can be more motivation from your owner or crew chief.

Let's take the time to name some famous drivers that are married: Jeff Gordon, Kurt Busch, and Jimmie Johnson.

They all have done so well since they have been married, granted Kurt did better when he wasn't but I think that was because he was with Roush Racing instead of with Rodger, whose equipment sucks compared to such an elite force in the sport.
