Here is a recap of Jimson's Top 10 Standings After Week 9 of the 2008 College Football season:
1. Florida Gators 7-0
2. Missouri Tigers 8-0
3. Georgia Bulldogs 7-1
4. Texas Tech Red Raiders 8-0
5. Kansas Jayhawks 7-1
6. Utah Utes 8-0
7. Arizona State Sun Devils 6-1
8. USC Trojans 6-1
9. Clemson Tigers 7-0
10. Ohio State Buckeyes 8-1
Now, it's time to move on to Week 10 of the 2008 College Football season.
Key Games in Week 10:
Florida (7-0) vs. Georgia (7-1) (in Jacksonville, Florida)
Obviously, this SEC showdown is the game of the week, in Week 10. In fact, this SEC matchup features two teams, who are each ranked in the Top 3... as the #3 Georgia Bulldogs and the #1 Florida Gators face off, in Jacksonville, Florida.
It also seems to basically be a forgone conclusion that the Florida Gators will head into this showdown, with an UNDEFEATED record.
Seriously, the Florida Gators really do NOT have an excuse, NOT to have a 7-0 record, at this point in the season. I mean, the Gators have had a VERY EASY schedule... and TWO bye weeks, during the first nine weeks of the 2008 College Football season.
On the other hand, the Georgia Bulldogs head into this showdown with a 7-1 record. However, the Bulldogs also come into this game beaten up... after facing a brutal schedule, during the first nine weeks of the season.
Well, it is pretty obvious that the Florida Gators will be MUCH fresher and well rested that Georgia Bulldogs... heading into this Week 10 showdown. When you combine that with the fact that the Florida Gators are looking for revenge... I smell a victory for the Florida Gators.
Winner: Florida
Wisconsin (7-1) @ Michigan State (8-1)
This Big Ten matchup should really be an interesting showdown... as the #16 Wisconsin Badgers travel to East Lansing, to take on the #17 Michigan State Spartans.
Wow, these two teams have SO MANY similarities! This probably explains why the Badgers and the Spartans are ranked next to each other.
Both of these Big Ten teams have one loss on the season. In fact, each team's only loss came AT HOME, to the Ohio State Buckeyes.
What's more is that both of these teams defeated the Michigan Wolverines, on the road, in Ann Arbor.
These two teams are so similar to each other... that even I, have a tough time picking this game. Well, I guess that I have to give the advantage to the Michigan State Spartans, simply based on the fact that the Spartans have the home field advantage.
Moreover, the Michigan State Spartans improve to 9-1 on the season... and now have sole possession of second place, in the Big Ten, with this win.
Winner: Michigan State
Hawaii (0-8) @ Utah State (2-6)
What a difference ONE season makes! Last season, it was the Utah State Aggies, who made a run at a WINLESS season.
In fact, Utah State started the 2007 College Football season with an 0-10 recond... and became the PENULTIMATE remaining WINLESS team, in the FBS(to Florida International, who started the 2007 season with an 0-11 record).
This season, it is the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors who are making a run at the WINESS season. In fact, the Rainbow Warriors come into this game as the ONLY remaining WINLESS team in the FBS, with an 0-8 record.
On October 7th last season, the Rainbow Warriors, with Heisman finalist Colt Brennan, STRUGGLED against a WINLESS Utah State Aggies team, AT HOME.
In fact, Hawaii NEARLY BLEW a 25-point lead, by giving up TWO scores... in the final six minutes in the game, before finally holding of the Utah State Aggies, by the final score of 52-37.
Now that Hawaii is without Brennan, and since this game will be played AT Utah State... I HIGHLY DOUBT that Hawaii will this game. In fact, I expect the Utah State Aggies to win this game, by AT LEAST TWO touchdowns.
The post-Colt Brennan era has gotten off to a very bad start as the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors remain as the ONLY WINLESS team, in the FBS, and fall to 0-9 on the 2008 season.
On the other hand, the Utah State Aggies snap a 4-game losing streak, and improve to 3-6 on the season.
Winner: Utah State
Jimson's Top 10 Standings After Week 10 of the 2008 College Football season:
1. Florida 8-0 (defeated Georgia)
2. Missouri 9-0 (defeated @ Baylor)
3. Texas Tech 9-0 (defeated Texas)
4. Kansas 8-1 (defeated Kansas State)
5. Utah 9-0 (defeated @ New Mexico)
6. Arizona State 7-1 (defeated @ Oregon State)
7. USC 7-1 (defeated Washington)
8. Clemson 8-0 (defeated @ Boston College)
9. West Virginia 7-1 (defeated @ Connecticut)
10. Ohio State 8-1 (bye week)
Dropped out: #3 Georgia 7-2 (LOST to Florida)
Stay tuned! Part 11 of Jimson's 2008 College Football Series will be released on Monday, July 21, 2008 :)

How does UGA (#3) lose to Florida (#1) and drop out but Kansas (#2 last week) loses to Texas Tech (#6-was it last week?) and only drops to #5?

"How does UGA (#3) lose to Florida (#1) and drop out but Kansas (#2 last week) loses to Texas Tech (#6-was it last week?) and only drops to #5?"
Probably because Georgia already has TWO losses on the season... while the Kansas Jayhawks only have ONE loss on the season, lolz :)

The fact that you have MSU as 8-1 and then beating Wisconsin shows how little you know about college football.

Well, the only way that Michigan State finishes 7-5 THIS SEASON is... IF the Spartans LOSE their FINAL FIVE games of the season, lolz :)

They'll lose to PSU, OSU, UM, Wisky and probably a game they're favored.

I really DO have a lot of confidence, in this Michigan State team... especially, considering the fact that the Spartans have a senior QB, in Bryan Hoyer :)

Don't let your UofM bias taint your MSU predictions. Lots of people had us winning two games last year. Instead, we went to a decent bowl and never lost by more than a touchdown. This year's team will be even better.

Mr. Cuenta,
Are you aware it is against the law to smike crack?
Utah ranked higher than Ohio State?
Clemson too?
Kansas doesn't stand a prayer to be 8-1 by the tenth week.
Ohio State is the closest thing you're going to find to a professional team in the college ranks. Everyone is counting on Beanie Wells, but, were you aware there is a hidden weapon on the Ohio State offense? His name is Brandon Saine. By week 10, I think you will know what I mean. The Utes over the Buckeyes by week 10.........I hope I can top laughing long enough to write this.

I agree with you R
What kind of numbers do you expect out of Brandon this year?
from 2 months ago
"Mr. Cuenta,
Are you aware it is against the law to smike crack?"
YES, I am aware that it is against the law to smoke crack... Oh, by the way, I do NOT smoke crack :)
"Utah ranked higher than Ohio State?
Clemson too?"
Actually, I think that the closest thing to a BCS buster, this season... is the Utah Utes. If Utah beats Michigan at their season opener... look for the Utes to run the table :)
Last season, the Utah Utes had injuries to its best qb, best running back, best reciever, and best offensive lineman, as well as other players... and Utah still beat UCLA 44-6. In addition, the Utes made it to a bowl game :)
The Utah Utes just simply played inconsistent, last season. However, if the Utes stay healthy this season, and play motivated... then even the Michigan Wolverines have little chance :)
In fact, I truly believe that Utah is a seriously underrated program, and that most people seem to have forgotten that the Utes were the origional BCS busters... and that they easily blew out the Pitt Panthers in the Fiesta Bowl, 4 years ago :)
Since the 2004 College Football season, however... the Utah Utes have struggled through injuries and inconsistent play with a young and sometimes questionable head coach. This season, Brian Johnson will play fully healthy for the first time since he was third in the nation in total offense, in 2005 :)
Along with pretty good recruitments, the Utah Utes look to me like the best non-BCS team in the nation. In fact, Utah was ranked 14th by Phil Steele in his preseason poll [and also in MY preseason poll]... with Fresno not even being ranked. Phil Steele is usually pretty close with his rankings year to year. The Utah Utes are looking pretty good this season :)

Saine's contribution this year will be signifcant. Rumor in these parts was that he was having some difficulty learning the offense last year. That, coupled with knee surgery limited his playing time. I honestly believe that Tressel has been keeping him under the radar. There has not been a better ball runner come out of the Ohio High School ranks in a very long time. I would be willing to bet that he has a cover on Sports Illustrated by the end of the season.

UCLA is highly overrated this year. However, if the Utes beat Michigan there is a certain new head coach who will have some 'splaining to do. However, I can't honestly say that Michigan will come into the first game like a top ten finalist. With a new offense that has caused more discention than confidence among the Michigan players, the first game should be interesting.
from 2 months ago
"UCLA is highly overrated this year."
I agree, UCLA is HIGHLY OVERRATED this year... But let's NOT forget that UCLA has a SENIOR QB, in Ben Olson :)
However, IF Olson does get hurt (again) this year... then the Bruins do NOT stand even a fighting chance, lolz :)

I really DO think that the Utah Utes will beat the Michigan Wolverines... in Ann Arbor, on Week 1 of the College Football season :)
In fact, this is NOT going to be Michigan's only home loss... As I stated above, I also predict that the Michigan Wolverines will LOSE AT HOME, to BOTH the Wisconsin Badgers AND the Michigan State Spartans :)
That's not all... I also have the Michigan Wolverines LOSING AT HOME, to the Illinois Fighting Illini!!! What's more is that I also have the Michigan Wolverines LOSING @ Notre Dame, @ Penn State, AND @ Purdue, lolz :)
So, let's recap Michigan's season so far:
Aug 30 Utah 3:30pm - L
Sep 6 Miami (Ohio) 12:00pm - W
Sep 13 @Notre Dame 3:30pm - L
Sep 27 Wisconsin TBA - L
Oct 4 Illinois TBA - L
Oct 11 Toledo TBA - W
Oct 18 @Penn St. 4:30pm - L
Oct 25 Michigan St. TBA - L
Nov 1 @Purdue TBA - L
So, at this point of the season... I have the Michigan Wolverines sitting with a 2-7 record, lol :)

Overall, I like your predictions. I too think that Georgia will be too banged up when the play Florida (because UGA plays LSU the week before).
Hawaii should be awful this year, too.
I do have a few comments though:
1. A 1 loss tOSU team would probably be ranked ahead of an undefeated Utah team at week 10. (altough I doubt a 1 loss tOSU team would get into the BCS title game if there were other 1 loss big conference schools available. I say this because of the buckeyes recent ineptness in title games)
2. Texas Tech will have at least 1 loss by the end of week 10. TT is the same every year. Every offseason they are a chic pick to win the Big 12, and then they end up going 10-3.

Jimson,
We finally see eye to eye. Wiconsin, I expect, is your 2008 sleeper. Michigan will not beat them and does not stand a chance against Illinois. Hawaii...Who? The only game in which I do not agree is Purdue. They stand the best chance to be the Big Ten doormat this year. I would almost argue about Penn State, but, not strongly. I beleive that the battle for the number two spot in the Big Ten this year will be between Wisconsin and Illinois. Too close to call in my book.
Back To your week eight predictions: Ohio State does not have a bye. Tressel refuses a bye week every year which actually costs them in the end as the usually go 7-8 weeks without playing a game before a bowl game. He might have to refigure his strategy in the future.

"the Florida Gators really do NOT have an excuse, NOT to have a 7-0 record, at this point in the season. I mean, the Gators have had a VERY EASY schedule"
Ok, I love that you have Florida undefeated. I love even more that you have them beating Georgia. But there's a major problem here - Florida doesn't have the easy road to the Georgia game that you seem to envision. While I don't think Tennessee will be a problem this year, it would be insane to overlook the LSU match-up. Now I'd love to see Florida at the Georgia game undefeated, and I even believe it's going to happen, but it won't be "VERY EASY". It's not a foregone conclusion. Florida doesn't have a pansy schedule; they're going to have to work to get there. Even with the quarterback problems, LSU is going to be an elite team.

That's a very good point... But still, Florida's schedule (during the first 9 weeks of the 2008 College Football season), is NOT even close to as hard as Georgia's schedule, lolz :)
However, I agree with you, that Tennessee will NOT be a problem this year... After all, the Florida Gators defeated the Tennessee Vols 59-20, LAST SEASON, lol :)
But seriously, though, I really think that Florida just has WAY TOO MUCH TALENT... to have a problem with LSU, lolz :)
"Florida doesn't have a pansy schedule; they're going to have to work to get there. Even with the quarterback problems, LSU is going to be an elite team."
Well, after last season... There really is NO such thing as a pansy schedule, lolz :)

I do agree with you that Georgia's schedule will be harder, especially given the bye weeks Florida will have. I just think the LSU game will be a major bump in the road on our way to the Georgia game.
I've been watching with some amusement the back-and-forth between you and Micah. I was only two when Florida won their first SEC title, so I don't remember. But I do know that my dad has been a fan all of his life. Why does a "TRADITION" of a football program not start until they win a conference title? Is this some unspoken rule of "TRADITIONS"? What about Notre Dame? Did their "TRADITION" not start until they won a national title? Not to be nit-picky, but come on, how do you get to declare when a "TRADITION" begins?

"Why does a "TRADITION" of a football program not start until they win a conference title? Is this some unspoken rule of "TRADITIONS"? What about Notre Dame? Did their "TRADITION" not start until they won a national title?"
Actually, I declare the beginning of a "TRADITION" of a College Football program... as the FIRST season, in which the College Football team was RELEVANT, lol :)

Yeah Jimson, I've got to say, I think the fourteen-year-old is doing an ok job. Oh wow, another milestone!!! 40! I'm going to call all of my friends! I'm happy for you Jimson, truly happy.
OK, Florida's first official team was in 1906. They weren't even a member of the SEC until 1932, the year of its inception. We played, and won, our first bowl game in 1953. We played in 18 bowl games before we one the SEC championship. Our first Heisman winner was Spurrier in 1966. If you truly believe we didn't have a football tradition until almost 90 years after our inception, then you are crazy. But then, you're entitled to your opinion.

"I don't know how you can call a Michigan State team that went to a bowl and didn't lose by more than 7 points last season a "sleeper", but I'm glad to see you've got us making some noise.

I wonder if Jimson lives in a blue and red house and paints his dog to look like the mascot? I think I've seen household appliances with a more objective view on reality in college football. The fact that there is a series of these articles makes me want to force vomit onto my computer

If Missouri goes 9-0 to start the year, they're going to go undefeated up til the Big 12 title game.

I agree, IF Missouri goes 9-0 to start the year... then I think that they are going to go UNDEFEATED, up until the Big 12 Championship Game, lolz :)

I hope you know what you're doing with Georgia. Texas Tech at #3 looks good.

How am I supposed to take you seriously after predictions like those and the frequent use of "omg" and "lolz"?

omg, I know... That is why MY Kansas Jayhawks WON a SHARE of the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP, during the 2007 College Football season, by finishing FIRST in the Jimson poll, lol :)

Yeah and they also managed to with the Big 12...wait...wait, they didn't? You mean we shouldn't award the national title to a team who couldn't win it's division?

Actually, MY Kansas Jayhawks SHOULD be awarded with a SHARE of the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP... because Kansas was the ONLY FBS team to finish the 2007 season with only ONE loss, AND win their (BCS) Bowl Game :)
