Per the Buffalo Sabres and radio station WGR 550 in Buffalo, the Buffalo Sabres have signed goaltender Ryan Miller to a five-year contract extension.
Miller, a vocal leader in the Sabres locker room and on the ice, was seen by most Sabres fans as a key offseason priority as he would have been entering the final year of his contract this season.
The Sabres have lost players such as JP Dumont, Mike Grier, Jay McKee, Chris Drury, Daniel Briere, and Brian Campbell in years past due to the their previous policy of not negotiating with potential free agents until their free agent season.

Miller is now signed with the club through the 2013-2014 season.
The deal, worth $31.25 million with a cap hit of $6.25 million per year over five years, will kick in against the cap next year.
This move is the Sabres' next step, after signing Paul Gaustad to a long-term deal, in showing a new proactive management style in locking up key free agents early.
In an interview with WGR, Miller mentioned his loyalty to the team, winning with the team who committed to him, the Sabres' potential, his involvement in local charities (including his own), and the Western New York community as reasons for wanting to stay.

Damn I was hoping the Sens might take a run at him next summer.
Good signing for the Sabres, they need to re-establish some credibility with their fans and their players.
