Only hours after Russell's release the Detroit Lions announced the signing of JaMarcus Russell.

"He's got a big upside and an even bigger appetite" Jim Schwartz said of the 300-pound quarterback who was once considered to be a possible prospect in the 2007 season.

Schwartz also commented "You watch the footage last year and most of his throws were behind the line of scrimmage or 5 yards forward, that is the type of production we are looking for in a quarterback."

After losing Dante Culpepper to free agency, Schwartz felt the need to acquire another 300-pound quarterback who has the ability to throw across field without looking.

"It's one thing to throw across field on your back-foot, but to do it with your eyes closed is just incredible." Schwartz said with a smile on his face.

The contract is reported to be around 10-12 million dollars with a 8 million dollar signing bonus. "It's a good day for the Detroit Lions, we really hope he can come into the locker room and change the culture and how guys go out to eat." William Clay Ford said.
