Scottish Players Association and Celtic Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year, Aiden McGeady, has signed a new five year deal today.

The new deal improves on the four-and-a-half-year extension agreed with the 22-year-old Republic of Ireland international in February 2007.

"I'm looking forward to spending the next few years of my career here," said the skilful winger.

"I think I can go on and progress as a player and I can see myself doing that and achieving even more with Celtic."

Several clubs have been linked with McGeady recently, including Sunderland and Newcastle but a move away does not appeal to the player just now.

McGeady was often the lone bright spot during the doldrums of December and March and earned both the awards and the pay raise he is sure to be getting.

This transfer season, Celtic have now re-signed the top scorer in the SPL and the Player of the Year, which is not a bad off season.

  1. He will get better with every coming season a great piece of business for Celtic today.

  2. Will be the trickiest player in Britain, once that spoilt twat Ronaldo moves on.

  3. This is great news. Speedy McGeady has been awesome in the last few years, and I'm hoping for him to keep getting better and better. All we need now is for Gordon to make high quality signings to compliment some of the talent we already have...

  4. I really must go and watch McGeady play for Celtic and believe all these awards and hype. This is because whenever he turns out for the Republic he's crap! Doesn't cross, tricks never work and can rarely beat his defender. All that only seems to happen in the green of Ireland.

    1. Thats because he's a bleedin Scotsman disguised as Irish haha...

Towards the end of last season he was unreal, I had the same feelings as you but I was very impressed with his displays since Christmas and I think he could be really great one day.

  5. I have a mate who is a Celtic fan and I am sure he will be overjoyed with this news
