A week after Extreme Rules and following the WWE Draft we learned some pretty important things about the State of the WWE. Extreme Rules had some pretty surprising events happening and some not so surprising(Cena Winning, Again). The Draft probably had so many people with their own mock drafts picking where their favorite superstars would land, whether It would be Raw or Smackdown! Here are 10 things we learned after it was all said and done.
With Legacy breaking up many wondered what would happen to Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes. The Draft saw Cody move to Smackdown while Ted remains on Raw and he seemed to be looking for some sort of alliance as he began to ask guys in the locker room to back him up. Rumors have been going around that Ted is indeed gonna have his own stable and most are saying that he will have his brother Bret DiBiase and the late Mr. Perfect's son Joe Henning. The stable is said to be named The Fortunate Sons as Ted mentioned the name a few weeks back. The name comes from all of them being fortunate, The DiBiase bros. for being rich and Joe henning for his father's genetics.
Arguably the best match at Extreme Rules, We saw a hooded man attack Rey and help Punk pick up a victory on Rey not once, but twice. Rumors are that the masked man is a part of the SES and is either Kaval/ Low Ki or Joey Mercury. One thing is for sure, this is a feud this is far from done and they will be going back and forth in the upcoming weeks leading to the Over the Limit PPV. We may find out who the hooded man is before then. Look for them to end their fued at Over the Limit and with all the fresh faces on Smackdown, for some new feuds.
HHH did a prety good job putting him over the past couple months and him putting The Game out of action definitely means Sheamus is gonna continue to be a main event player. He is now somewhat in the title hunt and has been going against the top guys for some time now. With all the new guys now on Raw it'll be just a matter of time before Sheamus is picking them out to solidfy him as one of the top heels in the business. Look for him to feud with Orton or possibly even Jericho. One thing is for sure, WWE isn't done pushing this guy.
Bad news for E&C fans all over. Most had Christian going to Smackdown to reunite the two former champs and possibly seeing them go for the gold one last time. I would have loved to see this but with Edge's recent Heel turn it made it pretty much impossible. The brawl made it perfectly clear the direction each of the two were going as Edge was leaving and Christian was arriving on the blue brand. Hopefully this will begin Christian's rise to the top as he along wit h Big Show are now the top faces of Smackdown! It's about time for a face World Heavywieght Champ.
If spearing the now Face Randy Orton wasn't enough it seemed WWE wanted to make it perfectly clear that Edge was going heel by brawling with his Best frieend Christian and insulting the WWE Univerese by calling them his "Puppets". While most people including myself love this move, It seems the fans didn't get it after Edge speared Orton last Monday. What a better way to solidify him as a heel then to go against his former partner Christian? We could possibly be seeing the "Ultimate opportunist" once again snake his way back to becoming WWE Champ.
Teddy Long seemed ecstatic about the acquisition of the "Giant Destroyer". I thought he would be on Smackdown to put some of the younger guys over but Teddy announced him as the number one contender for the World Heavyweight Championship. It's gonna be hard for Jack to retain against the big man but one thing for sure is that Show is now face. After knocking out Edge after his brawl with Christian, Y2J & Jack Swagger he seemed to get over pretty quickly with the fans. Show will either dominate Smackdown or help solidify Jack Swagger as a main event player.
Whether we like it or not, Batista has another shot at John Cena's WWE title. Rumors are that he is gonna work through the next month up to the Over the Limit PPV and then exit WWE. That being said, He couldn't possibly come out victorious against Super Cena. Rumors stated that he had been talking about leaving the company for some time now and when his role in an upcoming film was replaced by HHH, he wasn't too happy about it. This must've been the straw that broke that camel's back, because he hasn't resigned with WWE and his time is coming short. I wonder if WWE will make him go out in style or embarrass him again like they did at Extreme Rules.
This has a lot to do with why Raw has most of the top names of the business on their A show. Names like Cena, Batista, Edge, Y2J, HHH, JoMo & Miz are sure to bring in the ratings and thats exactly what WWE wants. the weeks leading to Wrestlemania the ratings compared to TNA were pretty good but they saw a big decline after each week following Wrestlemania. The solution? Bring more big names to Raw. The Draft saw WWE's ratings significantly while TNA's ratings were the worst they had had in a very long time. I'm not sure on the numbers but It was something terrible. This move by WWE should keep them even further ahead in the war for ratings on Monday nights. Not that they needed it or anything.
Smackdown lost some big names last Monday as they saw Edge and Jericho leave. They did recieve the Big Show but does that really make up for the loss? I think not. Show is on the decline and hasn't had a meaningful singles feud in some time. He is also not as mobile as he once was which would explain why he hasn't been in singles competition. Smackdown also recieved Kofi Kingston who may have had his career saved by jumping to the blue brand and Christian. I don't belive Kofi will be the top face just yet nor do I believe Vince will give Christian a title run after his jump to TNA then back to WWE. It seems as though Jack will rule over Smackdown for a while even with Show being number one contender.
We saw loads of top guys Drafted from Smackdown! to Raw leaving most fans to believe that Smackdown got the short end of the stick. These Superstars include Edge, Chris Jericho, John Morrison and R- Truth. While most would argue that the last two didn't really make much of an impact on the blue brand, I myself felt like this was a huge loss because these 4 were the reason I tuned in on Friday nights. Smackdown! picked up some good players that included Big Show, Christian, Kofi Kingston and MVP. Still, even with those names it seems like Smackdown has now become a show for mid carders to make a name for themselves(not that thats a bad thing).
