Last season, "disappointment" was the word which best described Jose Theodore.

This season, the first word that comes to mind is "wow!"

There has been a noticeable change in Theodore's performance. He is no longer flopping around as much, he is challenging shooters more aggressively, and he looks confident and comfortable in the net.

This may be the season that he takes back the title of number-one goalie.

Is this good or bad news? It might be both.

In the short term, Theodore's resurgence is good new for Avalanche fans. as it is a solution to Colorado's goaltending issues.

However, what now happens to Peter Budaj? The kid, who is rapidly growing into a NHL-caliber netminder, can’t grow as well anymore.

In the long run, more time on the bench could hurt not only Budaj, but also the Avalanche, who want Budaj to evolve into a number-one goaltender.

Without the opportunity to play consistently, Budaj might be on his way to becoming the next Alex Auld.
