Mattias Ohlund gave a vicious slash to Mikko Koivu during the November 16th contest between the Canucks and the Wild.

In response, the NHL's head disciplinarian Colin Campbell slashed back with a 4 game suspension.

The story behind the incident is as follows: Mattias Ohlund had the puck in center ice when Koivu went in for a hit.

Mikko Koivu's hit was high and his elbow struck Ohlund. The puck went up ice and Koivu followed. Ohlund elected to take the matter into his own hands, and, pretending that he was a baseball player, swung with two hands at Koivu's leg, breaking the bone.

Ohlund was given a five-minute major for slashing and a game misconduct. Mikko Koivu was assessed a two-minute minor for the elbow.

No one has commented on the condition of Koivu. He was seen limping after the game, but didn't speak to the press.

Despite the game misconduct and slashing major, Ohlund was named first star.
