Notre Dames Announces Plans To Stay a Mid Major Power.
Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick announced the "Fighting Irish" will continue their slide to mediocrity.
As rumors continue concerning the Big Ten's winter expansion and the possiblity of four "super conferences" in college football, the Irish continue on the independent course.
As he referred to a highly relevant 1913 gridiron campaign under coach Jesse Harper, Swarbrick buried his head in field turf and called for Irish independence.
How correct he was! Why should Notre Dame subject their players to extra chances to play in post season bowl games when the "at large" invitation fails? What possible good would it do for the "Irish" to take advantage of automatic conference invitations?
Fewer bowl opportunities and no conference championships does help recruiting! Specifically for the teams that recruit against Notre Dame. But that's fine! 30 years ago we were the top dog! We still can be if the service academies don't step up their games any further.
What's all that drivel about "super conferences"? Don't they know we are Regis Philbin's Notre Dame? We don't need "no stinkin super conference" in South Bend!
The winds of change obviously must not blow in "Irish" land. As the landscape of big time college football faces major changes, Notre Dame lives in 1913.
Glad to see it!
