Brett Favre Again Finds A Way To Miss Training Camp

Zach KruseApr 30, 2010

The old prima donna is at it again.

In a rather expected move, Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre has again found his reason to miss the Vikings training camp and still play football in 2010. Favre revealed Friday in an email to ESPN that his injured ankle will require surgery if in fact Favre wants to play next season.

Anyone that has followed the career of Brett Favre can probably give the time line of his next moves. As unpredictable as he can be sometimes, his five-year-old act is getting fairly easy to document even before he does it.

Favre already has the media train rolling-- conveniently placed right after the draft so the focus of the remaining offseason stays directly on the summer-after-summer saga of whether or not he is going to retire. Another time honored Favre tradition--keep the television talking about Brett Favre in any way possible.

But of course, the well-documented waffler is going to go back-and-forth on his decision to have the surgery or retire altogether from the Vikings. My guess is that Favre will have this specifically planned out, so as the recovery of his surgery ensures that he will miss the majority of the Vikings training camp.

I'm not debating if Favre has an injury or not--I could tell he was hurt in the NFC Championship game, and the pictures of his ankle after the game were rather gruesome.

But why wait until right now to let the media know of this? And if he truly wasn't going to come back because of the surgery, don't you think the Vikings would have tried to address their quarterback situation in this years NFL draft?

If the Vikings brass is content with going into next season with a competition between Tavaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels, with no plan for the foreseeable future, then Minnesota is going to have a problem on it's hands starting next season. Like he did for years in Green Bay, Favre has again handcuffed an organization with his offseason antics.

But ss Favre really going to walk away from football after the year he had last season? Give me a break. Favre is going to come back in 2010, and he's going to plan his surgery so he doesn't have to attend Vikings training camp.

It's an immature act that Favre has mastered.

Are Vikings fans sick of the act yet?
