Euroy Smith Makes Decision on College and Basketball Future

Previously, Bleacher Report first brought Euroy Smith into the spotlight about two weeks ago. He was being defined as "College Basketball's Hidden Gem from New York ". The Xavier High School Senior has made his official college decision.

I spoke to the Catholic High School Athletic League standout in person and was able to learn the following.

Euroy Smith was weighing offers about what college should attend. Several schools offered him a chance to start on the basketball teams. Other schools recognized his scholastic achievements in the classroom.

He was hoping to get a scholarship offer that would blow him away, but just schools that he was uninterested in gave him calls. He had a shortlist of schools that he was waiting for, but never got the hook-up.

Smith has decided to attend Fairfield University in Connecticut. He will be part of the school's Class of 2014. Just to clarify things, Euroy Smith will not be part of the basketball team.

His basketball dreams may not be over soon. He will continue to play on his own, possibly for an outside league/Independent Team, and with friends.

Has he contemplated trying out for the Fairfield team? He is still weighing that option as to whether he will go as a walk-on. But let us make this clear. Smith had an excellent run as a high school star in 2009-2010 in New York and is a very talented athlete.

Who knows? Maybe Fairfield has a surprise waiting for them...
