Cristiano Ronaldo Hopes Inter Milan Crush Barcelona, A Case of Revenge?

Isaac AsanteApr 28, 2010

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo seems to be impatient to see the downfall of FC Barcelona on the European stage.

Barcelona were defeated 3-1 by Inter Milan at the San Siro in the first leg of their Champions League semifinal clash on April 20, and Ronaldo was not shy to admit the fact that he would be glad to see the collapse of his rivals.

“I hope Barcelona will lose,” frankly stated CR9.

Barcelona became the title-holders of the UEFA Champions League after they defeated  Ronaldo’s former Premier League side, Manchester United, 2-0 in Roma; in a game where the Portuguese winker was out-shined by Samuel Eto’o, Lionel Messi , and Xavi Hernandez.

Unfortunately for Ronaldo, he was also incapable of showing his real side against the Catalans when he moved to Real Madrid last summer, seeing that the Blaugrana defeated the Castellan side twice, leaving Ronnie goalless in El Clasico this season.

Perhaps, his weakness against the defending Spanish champions could also be one of the major reasons why he would like to see them crush out of the Champions League. Knowing the skills of his fellow-Portuguese Jose Mourinho, Ronaldo seems to be confident that his dream will turn into a reality.

In addition, many believe that Barcelona will be striving to overturn their 3-1 score line against Inter Milan since they wouldn’t want to miss a place in the final which will be held at the Bernabeu Stadium.

The Bernabeu is the temple of archrivals Real Madrid, and having invaded Los Blancos’ home twice in a row, Barcelona would be fighting to be crowned 2010 European Champions on “fresh” soil.

In the case of Ronaldo who suffered an unwanted exit from the Champions League subsequent to Real Madrid’s loss to Lyon in the round of 16, he certainly feels bitter over the fact that Barcelona have chances of becoming finalists, while he might also have concerns over the truth that his challenger, Lionel Messi, has already surpassed him in the goalscoring chart with eight goals.

Whatsoever happens to Barca against Inter tonight, Ronaldo indeed does not expect to win individual UEFA club honors later this summer, despite being assured of receiving several nominations.

Having nothing to lose, Ronaldo can only keeps his hopes of seeing La Liga leaders perishing in the semifinal, and getting what could be a revenge of his previous miseries against Barcelona.

It goes without saying that an aggregate loss for the Azulgranas in favor of Inter Milan will also benefit Madrid in the sense that they will be earning a moral boost for the end of La Liga race. Real are currently second in the standings with only one point separating them from Messi’s army.
