Sky Blue FC midfielder Carli Lloyd was placed on the 30-day injured reserve after suffering a broken ankle against the Chicago Red Stars on April 25.
“It is unfortunate to lose a player of Carli’s caliber for any extended amount of time,” Sky Blue FC head coach Pauliina Miettinen said of the injury. “However, I know she will apply the same hard work and determination to her rehabilitation that she does on the playing field. I am confident that her return will come sooner rather than later.”
Lloyd slipped on the field in the 27th minute of play in Sunday’s 1-0 victory and landed awkwardly on her left ankle. She was able to gingerly walk off the field but did not return to the match. She is expected to make a full recovery and should be available for the reigning WPS champions later in the season.
