With a duo of former Baylor Bears drafted during this year’s highly anticipated NFL draft, three more signed as free agents, and an additional two invited to tryout camp, there are now a total of seven BU gridiron athletes with a high probability of making football a career at the professional level.
The top two former Bears taken in the draft include center J.D. Walton (third round, Denver Broncos) and receiver David Gettis (sixth round, Carolina Panthers).
Shortly following the annual NFL draft, the following Baylor players were signed as free agents: linebacker Joe Pawelek (Seattle Seahawks), defensive lineman Jason Lamb (New York Jets), and wide receiver Ernest Smith (San Diego Chargers).
In addition, defensive tackle Trey Bryant (St. Louis Rams) and deep snapper Carter Brunelle (Green Bay Packers) were invited to rookie minicamp tryouts.
