Kevin Jones, Chicago Bears a Good Fit

AlexJul 16, 2008

Matt Forte very well could be a great player for the Chicago Bears in 2008, but signing Kevin Jones to a one-year deal was a smart move for Chicago.

Jones will cost the Bears next to nothing after he signed a one-year deal for the league minimum ($605K). It's a low risk, high reward type of situation for the Bears, a team in dire need of a running back who's "been there".

It could turn out that Jones gets hurt in week one and ends his career in Chicago before it really gets started. But the risk is a cheap and good one. If he can stay healthy, Jones could turn out to be a back that rushes for at least 500 yards and anywhere on up.

In his first four seasons in the NFL, Jones has battled injuries. Still, he has been able to put up at least 500 yards per year including the following totals:

So if Jones can stay even somewhat healthy in 2008, he'll be able to take a big amount of pressure off the rookie Forte.

And who knows, if he can play the entire season alongside Forte, the Bears could have a solid combo in the backfield, leaving them to worry only about the quarterback situation.
