Mickie James' Best Moments

In honor of Mickie James, I'll be highlighting some of the best moments of her career with the WWE. Mickie has given her blood, sweat, and tears (literally) to the mega-corperation, and it's only fair that someone brings to light her best moments. Although she was in a rut back in 09', her move to Smackdown revitalized her top working status, and she should've left on her own terms. So, in honor of you, Mickie James, here it is.

Moment #1: Mickie Debuts

What would a Mickie James memorial be without her infamous feud, that arguably launched her superstardom? It all started on October 10, 2005. Mickie came out to help her then-idol, Trish Stratus, from being attacked by Victoria post-match. Watch below.

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/vEPadiwRgw4&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/vEPadiwRgw4&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

Pretty decent debut, no? Then backstage Mickie professed her excitement to Trish, while both her and Ashley were confused.

Moment #2: Mickie's Debut Match

The feud as a whole was great, but there were many pivitol moments within the feud that are often overlooked, such as Mickie's impressive first debut match against Victoria. Watch below:

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/4g4-JO9pGvg&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/4g4-JO9pGvg&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

Mickie comes down to the ring looking happy and chipper as was her character in the moment. Next come out Vince's Devils, looking mighty fierce.

The two women lock up, followed by a side headlock from the Vicious Vixen. She wrenches a few times before flipping her challenger in a headlock takeover. The two feisty gals' struggle a bit, and Victoria then brutally knees Mickie in the back of her head! Ouch!

Victoria whips Mickie off the ropes and Mickie takes advantage by rolling the competitor into a sunset flip pin for a two. Vic' misses a clothesline, Mickie kicks her in the gut, followed by a punch, and then whips her into the ropes. Victoria hangs on however, and Mickie's head digs into the mat after going for a high missle dropkick. I'm loving the back and forth here, it's very impressive, and one of the things Mickie has mastered over her career.

Victoria works over Mickie's gut, but Mickie mounts a short comeback stopped only by another kick to her midsection. MJ thwaps Vicky with a strong chop, and Victoria clotheslines Mickie to the mat. Another great example of the back and forth discussed earlier. Victoria tries for a pin, but only receives a two count. Victoria then wrenches in a headlock, Mickie mounts a comeback, and Victoria slaps Mick' right in the face! Mickie's sent to the corner while Victoria runs right into an elbow. Mickie follows this up with her ever-present Mickanrana from the corner. A few clotheslines and a dropkick later Mickie gets a two count.

Toward the end MJ sends Vicky to the corner, runs the ropes, and is tripped up by Torrie Wilson. Victoria shows no mercy, kicking Mickie in her stomach viciously. A delayed suplex is set up, which is then countered by Mickie into a small package. Torrie distracts the ref while Candice rolls Victoria over Mickie. Ashley then takes care of the situation while Trish follows suit and our favorite Virginian wins her debut match.

That was definitely one of the best debut matches for any woman on the roster. Mickie proved here that she's just as good a worker as any, male or female, on the roster. She kept up, toe to toe, with one of the most praised veterans on the roster, Victoria (now Tara). I liked the pacing of the match up, and the back and forth action was fabulous.

Moment #3: Mickie Wins a Title Shot

After a few weeks of tension built up between Trish and Mickie, the base of the feud was set when Mickie beat Victoria in a number one contender's match up for the WWE Women's Championship:

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/fPvUDjiPJo8&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/fPvUDjiPJo8&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

Another good match turned out by Mickie and Victoria, and with only two minutes and a few seconds to spare!

Moment #4: Mickie vs Trish at New Year's Revolution

Over the next few weeks Mickie stayed true to her roots, still idolizing Trish Stratus, but she went a little overboard. Their feud went on to turn into some sort of a lesbian angle between the two, where Mickie even ended up kissing the then-champ! It all culminated at New Year's revolution where Mickie gifted Trish with one of her best matches of her career:

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/OY2wTOAzBWI&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/OY2wTOAzBWI&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

Mickie shares a handshake with Trish, and Trish pulls Mickie in to let her know this is a serious match. Mickie's dazed for a moment but continues the match nonetheless. The women lock up and Trish wrenches in a wrist lock. Mickie does a nice little cartwheel, but Trish doesn't let up, fiercely pinning Mickie to the ground for a two count. Both ladies have a tense staredown. I love the emotion here, and now Mickie realizes that this match isn't a joke.

They lock up again, this time Mickie taking control with a side headlock. She turns this into a hammerlock. Trish is flustered for a moment but then follows suit, hammerlocking Mickie. She turns this into a headlock now, and there's an interesting spot here. The lesbian angle  discussed earlier comes into play as Mickie grabs Trish's breast while in the hold, thus prompting Trish to quickly release it while Mickie simply laughs it off. The mix of mat-based wrestling with the storyline is something nice to see, but I wish it wouldn't have included the whole lesbian thing.

There's another awkward stare down as both women gather themselves. Once again a lock up, hammerlock from Mickie, then from Trish, then from Mickie again, and Trish ends the exchange by going for a fireman's carry takedown and a pin. She only gets a two as Mickie smartly bridges out of it using Trish back, and then goes for an oklahoma roll with a two. Mickie whips Trish to the corner, which is then reversed, and the series of moves ending with Mickie's hurricanrana takeover begins. Before it can be hit, though, Trish brings Mickie's shoulders to the ground in a powerbomb of sorts. She gets a two, and as Mickie kicks out Trish falls through the ropes onto the concrete floor.

Mickie looks extremely pissed now, and yet another staredown between the two feisty competitors commences. Mickie still holds the ropes for her idol to come in, and tries to laugh off the fact that her idol dropped her unceremoniously on her head. Another lock up and headlock from Mickie who is then sent off to the ropes and comes back with a shoulder tackle sending Trish to the ground. The fans are half and half now, cheering and booing as Mickie yells "that's what I'm talking about!". Mickie tries to run the ropes, but Trish trips her up in a sly, heel-like move.

Trish ducks a clothesline and follows it up with two harsh forearms to the face of Mickie James. Mickie comes back with a weak punch, and Trish doesn't let up forearming her again. This lights a fire under the bubbly Virginian because she punches the hell out of Trish. Trish then forearms her again and whips her to a corner. MJ boots Trish in the shoulder and climbs the turnbuckle. Trish almost bamboozles Mickie out of a win by going for her Stratusphere, but Mickie knows her all too well, sending her feet back to the ground and going for her patented ddt. Trish throws her off, kicks her in the gut, and then snaps her head back with a kick.

Mickie tries to find refuge on the outside, but Trish doesn't let up, tryng to dropkick Mickie through the ropes. She misses, however, and Mickie takes some time to recollect herself, also posing with the title as the fans chant, "let's go Mickie!". Mickie sends the champ into the ring and misses a clothesline. Trish takes advantage by hitting a lou thesz press on the challenger who wisely covers up. A few forearms, chops, and a kick later we're back where we started before going to the outside. Mickie is on the top rope, but this time Trish actually nails her patented Stratusphere move. Trish follows up with a magnificently sold spinebuster. She goes for the pin, but no dice.

As Trish goes after MJ, the intelligent challenger kicks the crap out of the champ's head. MJ adds further insult to injury by hitting the champ with her own signature, the Stratusfaction. Mickie savors the moment as the fans go nuts, begging her to end Trish's one year reign. As she goes for the kill Trish kicks out at two and seven eights. Amazing! The Virginian sets Trish up for her jumping ddt, but Trish reverses it into her Stratusfaction, which Mickie reverses. MJ goes for the Mick Kick (Really, the chick Kick), but Trish ducks and pays Mickie back for that kick she received earlier by nailing her own Chick Kick. The pin and the one, two, three.

An amazing match up, that made both women look like a million bucks. The way their feud was injected into the match was great, and I loved the layering of different aspects that led to Mickie's loss. From Mickie's infactuation with Trish to her outright inexperience to the lesbian angle, it all played out well. And by the end the fans were fully invested in the match up, including me.

Moment #5: Mickie wins her first championship

After months of build up it all led up to the grandest stage of them all, Wrestlemania. Although I perfer their New Year's Revolution match up, Mickie and Trish did not disappoint at the year's biggest event. They flat out hated each other, and the psychopathic challenger overcame the odds by not only beating Trish, but by beating the holy crap out of her in the process:

 <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/O1VSXDHlXVg&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/O1VSXDHlXVg&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/NHSDDFn4urg&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/NHSDDFn4urg&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

A great match up that was a bit sloppy at times, but overall is still consdered the greatest women's championship match in the history of Wrestlemania. Two parts were edited. The part where Mickie botched the Stratusfaction, and the part where Micke pointed her fingers in a "v" shape after grabbing a handful of Trish's vajayjay and licking it in the middle. Yup, they went that far.

Moment #6: Mickie beats Lita in her last match

After months of harassing Mickie James in stipulated matches that put her at a disadvantage, Lita decided she was going out with a bang by going into Survivor Series champion and leaving champion, but it was her challenger who would end up winning big:

<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/S8YfS9yFtdU&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/S8YfS9yFtdU&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

Yet another nice match up turned out by Mickie James. It's unfortunate that it had to be Lita's last match where Mickie became champ a second time, but at least Lita can always be happy she had a good last outing. The fans were pretty into it, and the anticipation at the end of the match was great. So when Mickie won, it was quite unexpected.

Moment #7: Mickie vs Melina at Backlash

This match not only signaled Mickie's top Diva status, but it also signaled that Melina Perez could hang in there with the best, and that the Divas could put on a wrestling clinic if given the chance. This was the second best women's wrestling match of mainstream wrestling in 2007, bested only by the epic Gail-Kong match at Final Resolution. Watch the epic below:

<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/W1EaFlfR6X4&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/W1EaFlfR6X4&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

This match proved that although the old era of Divas were good, it's time for the new generation to take over. Mickie and Melina poured their hearts and souls into this match. They tried to outdo each other at every turn, and it led to this amazing, absolutely historic match up.

Moment #8: Mickie wins her fourth championship

Back in 08' Mickie was the front and runner to beat the seemingly unstoppable Glamazon. At every twist and turn Beth was there, and Mickie was relentless in getting the title. Then, on one night, Mickie did the impossible, she beat the Glamazon, Beth Phoenix:

<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/xyQPKjG4OUw&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/xyQPKjG4OUw&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

Amazing. This woman just never let up, and we loved her for it.

Moment #9: Mickie vs Beth vs Natalya

Just when we thought our favorite Virginian was losing her spark she comes up with this awesome match. Without a doubt one of the best matches Smackdown had had in quite a while, and guess who won it:

<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/xt3nE02ZcNM&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/xt3nE02ZcNM&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

Now that was a match. 10 minutes were given to the ladies, and about 6 of those minutes were used for the match. The ending was quite unique, and the post-match promo was great.

Moment #10: Mickie vs Michelle at TLC

And our last moment is none other than the closing moments of Mickie's career. The whole "Piggie James" storyline, as offensive as it was, was way over with the crowd. People felt for this woman being ridiculed for her weight, when in reality she's gorgeous. The build up was fantastic, and it peaked at this pay per view:

<object width="480" height="276"><param name="movie" value="http://www.dailymotion.com/swf/video/xbhssr"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://www.dailymotion.com/swf/video/xbhssr" width="480" height="276" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always"></embed></object><br /><b><a href="http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xbhssr_mickie-james-vs-michelle-mccool_shortfilms">Mickie James vs. Michelle McCool</a></b><br /><i>Uploaded by <a href="http://www.dailymotion.com/Jokerwilds">Jokerwilds</a>. - <a href="http://www.dailymotion.com/us/channel/shortfilms">Full seasons and entire episodes online.</a></i>

See that? Amazing.

As we close, I want to make it clear that I am in no way, shape, or form a big fan of Mickie James. Never was, never will be. But she does deserve recognition for the things she's done and the amazing accomplishments she has. Mickie was and is a great worker, and it was almost garunteed that every time she wrestled it was going to be good. She deserved to leave on her own terms, but WWE couldn't even give her that. So I leave saying this:

Mickie James, you are an amazing, strong, powerful woman with a kind heart and passionate direction. No matter where you go you will succeed. And good luck, not that you need it ;) .
