Welcome to my first review of WWE Friday Night Smackdown.....

Segment 1) Swagger Promo

Not a bad promo from the WH Champion. However, I feel that his match with Orton at Extreme Rules is flat due to really poor build up. How can you build a main event when the two men involved have not appeared on the same show for the final episodes before ER.(I know the volcano didn't help) Swagger still has a lot of room for improvement with his mic skills and if he does improve, he could be one of the best champions in history.

Segment Rating: 2.5/5

Segment 2) Swagger vs Morrisson

Yet another great match from JoMo leaves wrestling fans around the world scratching their heads as to why he has not been pushed to the stars. Seriously though, this was another really good showing from these two, outshining their match two weeks ago. The rest of the night was kind of a letdown after such a good opener(with the exception of the main event)

Segment Rating: 4/5.

Segment 3)  R-Truth & Hardy vs McIntyre & Ziggler

More of an angle than anything else. Props to Matt Hardy for his selling. It looked like he was really concussed. However, a simple backstage attack would have done.

Segment Rating: 1.5/5

Segment 4) Jericho/Edge Promos

Nice twist of adding the cage to the mix. Great mic work from both men. Jericho plays the heel role to perfection once more by leaving his NXT rookie take the beating.

Segment Rating: 3/5

Segment 5) JTG vs Mike Knox

Total squash and a worthless match. Pity that the WWE let Knox go recently. Many people saw it coming, including me(see part three of my draft predictions). They should have at least tried re-branding Knox before letting him go as he is one of the better big men.

Segment Rating: 0.5/5

Segment 6) James & Phoenix vs LayCool

Not a bad divas match at all. However, the post match attack was what caught my eye. Did WWE actually have a diva take some form of bump? *** APOCALYPSE*** lol! Surely an Extreme Makeover match is an infringement of copyright against the show Extreme Makeover?

Segment Rating: 2.5/5

Segment 7) Kane & Rey vs Punk & Gallows

A really good main event. Near falls, a good spot from Rey with the frog splash and a clean win for Punk. I like the way that WWE focused the finish on Punk and Rey by having Kane and Gallows fight off into the crowd. The first bit of sensible creative booking in a while.

BTW, Kane and Mysterio teaming? Were the entire booking team asleep last year when Kane was 'viciously attacking' Rey and trying to end his career?

Segment Rating: 4.5/5

Final Thoughts:

A great opening and a great finish to SD tonight. However, the show was poor enough between the alpha and omega. I'm expecting really good things from SD in the weeks to come, especially if the Viper is drafted there, which I think he will be.

Final Rating : 2.5/5
